Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleRenowned filmmaker, Yeon Sang Ho, who many of you might know as the man behind Train to Busan, has finally brought us another amazing zombie movie. For those unaware, the new film in question is Colony, which was released in India on June 19, 2026. It features a strong cast of some of the top South Korean actors, including Jun Ji Hyun, Koo Kyo Hwan, Goo Soo, Kim Shin Rok, Shin Hyun Bin, and Ji Chang Wook. Amid the buzz surrounding the film, if you are wondering what Colony is about and how it ends, we have got you covered.
Unlike Train to Busan, Colony's story takes place entirely inside a high-rise building in Seoul. In this building, a biotech company called Chains Bio is seen hosting a conference on cell regeneration and shared consciousness. Among the people attending the showcase are 'Professor Kwon Se Jeong' (Jun Ji Hyun), along with her ex-husband, 'Han Gyu Seong' (Go Soo). He intends for 'Professor Kwon' to consider a job offer before he moves abroad with his new wife, 'Gong Seol Hee' (Shin Hyun Bin).
Downstairs in the same building, viewers are introduced to 'Choi Hyun Seok' (Ji Chang Wook), who works there as a security guard. It is worth mentioning that he knows all the corridors and exits in the building like the back of his hand. He can be seen spending the day with his older sister, 'Hyun Hee' (Kim Shin Rok), who has come to visit him for a long overdue trip.
While things initially seemed peaceful, the conference gets interrupted when a scientist called 'Seo Young Chul’ (Koo Kyo Hwan), after being fired, unleashes a fast-acting slime mould virus inside the building. According to him, it is a part of his experiment to create a “new humanity.” With authorities having no choice but to seal the building immediately, the survivors get trapped inside. To make matters worse, although it looked like a familiar zombie outbreak at first, that is far from the case here. The infected in the building not only attack, but also can evolve and mimic the people they used to be. At one point, they start behaving less like individual monsters and more like they are part of one shared organism.
The interesting part about how Colony functions is that the zombies work together like a hive; they communicate with each other and constantly learn from the way that the survivors attempt to escape. One of the most emotional scenes takes place when ‘Hyun Seok' decides to sacrifice himself in order to protect his sister. Later, in the climax scene that takes place in the laundry room, ‘Seo Young Chul' makes use of the now-infected ‘Hyun Hee' to kill ‘Hyun Seok.'
Outside of the building, ‘Gong Seol Hee' is working with a special investigation team after she loses contact with her husband. This is when she begins noticing the same pattern that ‘Se Jeong’ observes from the inside. The duo note that the infected are working like an ant colony caught in a “death spiral.” For those unaware, this is a real biological phenomenon where ants lose their pheromone trail and end up following each other blindly in an endless loop.
'Se Jeong' and ‘Seol Hee' conclude that instead of fighting the infected head-on, they need to be tricked into this same kind of loop. To achieve this, they deliberately feed the infected network false information. This essentially leads to a system-wide “reset” and breaks down the hive's coordination, giving the survivors the chance to get out of the building. Meanwhile, ‘Seo Young Chul' ends up dead after he fails to communicate with the hive.
