Fans had been eagerly waiting for a zombie movie that would hit as well as Train to Busan. Well, filmmaker, Yeon Sang Ho took matters into his own hands with the new Korean movie, Colony. For those unaware, the movie was released in India on June 19, 2026. The film features a star cast including Jun Ji Hyun, Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, Kim Shin Rok, and Goo Soo. For those who are still not convinced about whether Colony is worth watching or not, here's our review to help you decide.

What is the plot of Colony?

Colony is quick to set its stage as we see ‘Seo Young Cheol' (Koo Kyo Hwan), a vengeful biologist who was just fired from his job, injecting the CEO with a weaponised bacteria during a corporate showcase in Seoul. With the bacteria being a really fast-acting one, within minutes, the high-rise gets filled with the mutating infected, that too before the people present can even process what is going on. While it is revealed that the virus spreads through bites, ‘Young Cheol' makes the shocking claim that the only cure is his blood.

Trying to survive this zombie chaos is biotechnology professor, ‘Kwon Se-jeon’ (Jun Ji-hyun), alongside security officer, ‘Choi Hyun-seok’ (Ji Chang-wook), scientist, ‘Gong Seol-hee' (Shin Hyun-bin), and the enigmatic ‘Seo Young-cheol' (Koo Kyo-hwan). To make matters worse, ‘Kwon Se Jeon's' ex-husband, ‘Han Gyu Seong' (Go Soo), also appears to be in the mix. Each of them works together in the floor-by-floor scramble to the top.

Performances of the Colony's cast

As we mentioned, Colony brings together some of the top actors of South Korea. Although it is Jun Ji-hyun's character who seems to be the anchor in the movie. Even though many might initially question if ‘Kwon Se-jeon’ is actually capable of surviving this zombie nightmare, she soon established herself as a fierce and smart character. On the other hand, Koo Kyo Hwan's role as the mad scientist is nothing short of terrifying. He brings a sense of cold and smug energy that immediately hooks viewers and stops them from looking away.

The fight scenes featuring Ji Chang Wook are exceptionally brutal as he can be seen trying to save everyone, including his sister. It is safe to say that these scenes are some of the best in Colony. On the other hand, Kim Shin Rok also delivers an outstanding performance, making her fear and her connection with Ji Chang Wook's character feel as real as ever. Shin Hyun Been and Kim Jong Tae also leave an impression on viewers with their time on screen.

Things that work and things that don't in Colony

Compared to director, Yeon Sang Ho's Train to Busan, which had a lot of emotional aspects, Colony appears to be on the smarter and colder side. The hive-mind zombie concept is rather impressive, with every floor springing a new nightmare on our central characters. The action sequences in particular leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

While Colony hits in all the above-mentioned aspects, there is no denying that the point at which the movie falters is its crowded script. Fans might get tired of keeping up with all the characters thrown at them, especially in the first half. And as the number of characters dropping dead rises, it becomes increasingly hard to form any sort of emotional attachment with them.

Is Colony worth watching?

If you are big into zombie movies or are a fan of director, Yeon Sang Ho's works, Colony might be the perfect watch for you. The film beautifully executes all the concepts that it had set out to. And even though it might not be as devastating or emotional as Train to Busan, the string performances delivered by the cast make up for it.
