Sombr Claims He Is Hesitant About Romance, Worried People Will Date Him 'For The Wrong Reasons'

Recently, he opened up about the downsides of always being in the spotlight, especially since he is only 21 years old. He claimed that he is facing difficulties dating since his newfound success.
Sombr revealed feeling hesitant about romance
Sombr’s life has taken quite the turn since his breakout success in the music world. He revealed that he is aware of how he has now come under the radar of a lot of people when it comes to dating. During an interview with Variety, the singer claimed that this has made him “hesitant” when it comes to romance. Even before he got the chance to meet up with people his age, they were already aware of who he was. Calling the experience “weird,” Sombr said:
“Since my recent success, I haven’t really been able to get out there and get on the market. It’s definitely weird, and I’m figuring it out. I don’t want to date someone who wants to date me for the wrong reasons.”
Despite facing difficulties, the singer clarified that he hasn't “stopped” dating yet. Instead, Sombr said that he is trying to take a “different approach.” He added, “I'm still getting that inspiration.”
Previously, during his appearance on the In Your Dreams with Owen Thiele podcast in December 2025, Sombr shared the qualities he was looking for in a girlfriend. He shared that he was hoping to find “a very talented creative.” He added, “I'm very attracted to very talented people that I can look up to and have a sense of humor.”
In another interview in April 2026, Sombr confessed that he was “very single.” He claimed that he was still trying to get used to his life as a rock star that has brought him so much fame. The singer said that even though his life in the spotlight means he does not have any privacy, he can't really complain as he is currently living the life he always wanted. Still, he has to be careful in the way he acts. In his words:
“[I have] to accept that I don’t have privacy, which is not something I’ll ever complain about because this is what I wanted. But I have to always act like I’m being watched. Because I am.”
During the same interview, Sombr had confessed that one of his most hit songs, Homewrecker, was about reconnecting with someone who has since moved on. Naturally, he said that it was based on a true story. Recalling how he felt at that time, the singer said that he thought he could be so much better “than this fool” while sharing that the subject of his song was “fucking pissed.”
Sombr's debut album, I Barely Know Her, came out in August 2025. He was even nominated for Best New Artist at the 2026 Grammy Awards. Sombr had previously revealed how he dropped out of high school to pursue his career. He said:
“Ever since I started making music, I was like, ‘I want to find a way to do music full time,’ so that was always in my head, always. I would be in school, I’d be in the back of class either sleeping or on my iPad, writing music.”
Sombr had sparked dating rumors with Addison Rae
For those who don't know, Sombr had previously sparked dating rumors with Addison Rae. This was after the pair was seen getting cozy on what appeared to be a romantic night out. At that time, they were seen having dinner together in Los Angeles.
Reports also revealed that Addison and Sombr looked pretty smitten with each other as they laughed and embraced after stepping out of the restaurant. It is worth noting that Sombr and Addison’s outing came after the Diet Pepsi singer had appeared in the former’s music video.
