Not every marriage has a happily ever after story. Some marriage vows are forgotten after a few years of togetherness. And since celebrities, be it of tinsel town or TV, are constantly under media glare, every detail related to them, especially their married life, is out to the public.
Be it their hook up, extra-marital affairs or broken relationship, they are always in the headlines for some reason or the other. So, today we will look at some of the stars who made headlines and stunned their fans by ending a decade-long relationship with their partners.
Hrithik and Sussanne were one of the cutest couples of the Bollywood, but they shocked their well-wishers by announcing their separation after 17 years of togetherness.
Farhan and Adhuna met on the sets of Dil Chahta Hai and dated for 3 years before tying the knot. But after 16 years of marriage, the couple decided to call it quits stating that the separation is the result of ‘growing apart over the years’.
Just a month before celebrating their 10th anniversary, Raghu and Sugandha announced that they have mutually decided to part ways, leaving their close pals surprised. Raghu has moved on in his life and is now engaged to Italian-Canadian singer, Natalie Di Luccio. Sharing that his ex-wife, Sugandha was the first one to know about it, he revealed to a media portal:
“Sugandha was the first one to know about Natalie from me. She said that if she had to pick a girl for me it would be her. They’ve had many conversations behind my back. I am sure Sugandha has given some advice on the dos and don’ts with me. She also told me about the mistakes I should avoid making this time.”
Known as Mr Perfectionist in tinsel town for his acting skills, Aamir stunned everyone when he divorced Reena after 16 years of marriage.
After 14 years of holy matrimony, Sangeeta and Azharuddin went separate ways. The prime reason behind the break-up was cricketer’s closeness with badminton champ, Jwala Gutta, who was half her age.
Kamal and Sarika parted ways after 17 years of being tied in the conjugal bond. This news stunned everyone as they were considered one of the loveliest couples of the glamour world.
Arbaaz and Malaika were the 'golden couple' of the tinsel town, but after 18 years of marriage, things went kaput between the couple due to which they decided to part ways.
This strong headed couple was enjoying marital bliss but after 11 years of nuptial, Manish and Pooja’s relationship hit rock bottom and they decided to end their marital relationship.
Not many of us know that Chitrangda Singh stepped into Bollywood post her marriage. Chitrangda exchanged wedding vows with a professional golfer, Jyoti Singh Randhawa in 2001. Their ‘happily ever after’ life went kaput after 13 years of marital bliss. The problems started erupting between the then-lovebirds and they ended their marriage in 2014. Chitrangda and Jyoti are blessed with a son, Zorawar.
After supporting each other through thick and thin for 14 years, Rajeev and Delnaaz decided to end their union to avoid constant tiffs. Currently, both Delnaaz and Rajeev have moved on in their respective lives. Delnaaz is seeing Percy Karkaria, with whom she featured in reality TV show, Power Couple and Rajeev is reportedly dating a single mom from New Delhi.
They married young and were very much in love. But soon Raja’s abusive and alcoholic nature started creating problems in their married life. And after seven years of marriage, followed by six years of fighting for a divorce, the actress was finally free from the marital bond.
Deepshikha and Jeet got hitched in 1997 but due to differences their relationship went for a toss, and they both ended their 10 years of marriage in 2007.
Sanjeev and Resham are popular faces in Indian television and were happily married before they decided to end their relationship after 11 years of holy matrimony.
The multi-talented Bollywood personality, Arjun Rampal and one of the Indian supermodel’s pioneers, Mehr Jesia put all speculations to rest and ended their 20 years of marriage. In May 2018, Arjun and Mehr released a joint statement to announce their separation. Their statement could be read as:
“After a 20-year-long beautiful journey filled with love and beautiful memories, we would like to share, that all journeys have different paths. We feel that it is time for us to move on to different destinations henceforth. We have always been solid when it has come to us, we will continue to be solid for each other and our loved ones, as we embark upon a new journey...Both of us being extremely private people feel strange to be making this statement, but such are the circumstances of our lives. Where the truth can get distorted and lost. We are a family, our love for each other is forever intact and we shall always be there for one another and most importantly, for our children Mahikaa and Myra. We would therefore appreciate our privacy through this time. Thank all for their support. Relationships can end, but love lives on. We won’t be commenting on this any further.”
Arjun and Mehr got married in 1998 and they are blessed with two lovely daughters, Mahikaa (2002) and Myra (2005).
Rahul Roy, who made his Bollywood debut with 1990s musical Aashiqui which even after two decades is considered to be one of the most romantic Bollywood films, met his ex-wife, Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar in 1998. Rajlaxmi, who was a prominent model as well as a makeup artist, met her then soulmate, Rahul through a common friend at a social event. After dating for 2 years, Rahul and Rajlaxmi tied the knot in an intimate wedding ceremony. After enjoying their marital phase for 14 years, Rahul and Rajlaxmi announced their mutual consented divorce. Later, Rahul shared in an interview that they had split on an amicable note and don’t have any grudges for each other. Bigg Boss season 1 winner was quoted as saying:
“We have filed for divorce by mutual consent. Rajlaxmi will always remain an integral part of my life. She shares the same sentiment. Her family is still my family and that’s that. I’ll always be there for her.”
He further added:
“Thankfully, it was not an ugly one. That chapter is now closed. We have been legally divorced for over a year. I have been blessed to be surrounded by good family and friends who helped me get over it.”
Bollywood’s Lolo, Karisma Kapoor tied the knot with a rich Delhi-based businessman, Sunjay Kapur in a grand ceremony on September 29, 2003. But things went kaput between the couple, and they decided to part their ways. Sunjay and Karisma are blessed with two children, Samiera Kapoor and Kiaan Raj Kapoor. After a lot of court proceedings, Karisma and Sunjay were granted the divorce in 2016, and Karisma got the custody of their children.
Despite the massive age difference between the couple and also the fact that Amrita wanted marriage, but Saif had everything but marriage on his mind at that time, they got married in a royal wedding in 1991. Saif and Amrita are blessed with two children, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. After 13 years of marriage, Saif and Amrita decided to part their ways in 2004.
Sanju baba a.k.a. Sanjay Dutt met his second wife, Rhea Pillai after partying ways with his alleged girlfriend, Madhuri Dixit. After falling madly in love with each other, Sanjay and Rhea tied the knot in 1998. Apparently, Sanjay and Rhea both got into extra-marital affairs which is speculated to be the reason behind their divorce. Sanjay and Rhea got officially divorced in 2008.
The Bollywood singer-composer, Vishal Dadlani got married to Priyali Kapur in 1999 but soon the couples faced some troubles in their marriage. They started living separately before taking their final mutual decision to part ways. In 2017, Vishal released a statement announcing his divorce which could be read as:
“After several years of living separately, Priyali and I are officially filing for divorce. This is the only statement either of us wishes to make as this is a private and personal matter, and we hope it will be respected as such. Over our time apart, we have become perhaps greater friends than we have ever been before. Both our families are extremely close, to us and to each other, and of course, this will remain so. Our private lives have always been extremely personal to us, so we humbly ask for dignity and privacy in this regard. Thank you.”
The break-up of these stars left many heartbroken, but despite ending their marriage, even today, some of these stars are close friends and support their exes when needed. While many stars have found love again, there are a few celebrities who are enjoying their single status after divorce and are in no hurry for a commitment anytime soon.
