Lord Ganpati, also known as Vinayak, Vighanharta, and Lambodara, is the first one to remember to start any auspicious work or puja. He is the one who removes obstacles and makes every work on point. But it is worth mentioning that he got his position after proving his worth. As per Hindu belief, Mahadev once decided to test his two sons, Lord Kartikeya and Lord Ganesha. He wanted to know who among them was brave enough to protect the gods.

Lord Kartikeya, also known as Murugan in South India, is a fierce God. He declared himself to be the bravest as he was the commander of the Gods. When Mahadev looked at his son, Ganesha, he replied that he could alleviate the gods' troubles without even taking up the role of commander. To test his two sons, Lord Shiva set them a task: to circle the Earth, and whoever returned to him first would be considered the bravest.

Lord Kartikeya quickly set out to circumambulate the earth on his peacock. However, Lord Ganpati Bappa was worried as he knew that due to his huge belly and big trunk, he won't be able to take a round of the earth on his mouse in time. So, he used his brain and decided to take a circle of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati seven times, and waited for Kartikeya to return.

When Kartikeya returned, he was shocked to find Ganpati Bappa there. He then stated how Ganpati Bappa didn't even leave his place. But Lord Ganesh quickly defended himself, saying that all pilgrimage and the entire world are contained within parents, so he took a circle of them seven times. Ganpati Bappa's answer impressed all, even Lord Kartikeya. And from that day onwards, Lord Shiva told Ganpati Bappa that he would be worshiped before all the gods.

Not only this, on Chaturthi tithi, the moon will crown your head and provide coolness to the world. Anyone who worships, chants, and fasts for you and offers prasad to the Moon in the evening will be relieved of all their sins and troubles. Happiness, good fortune, and the blessing of a son would follow them. Devotees pray that, as Lord Ganesh removed the suffering of all the Gods, he also removes the suffering of all and protects their children by fulfilling their wishes.
