Nancy Guthrie has been missing for more than 80 days, and her continued disappearance has raised multiple questions. Investigators believe that the 84-year-old was kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Despite extensive searches by authorities, no official suspects have been identified in the case. However, some new insights from a former FBI profiler suggest that the person involved in the crime might not have committed a "perfect crime". Instead, experts now believe that the suspect's mistakes could likely lead them to solve the case.

Ex-FBI profiler believes suspect's mistakes would get him caught

Former FBI profiler Jim Clemente sat down for a conversation on NewsNation and shared his take on people's mindset behind Nancy's disappearance. According to Jim, the kidnapper or culprit is likely following every update in the case. The person might be constantly questioning whether any evidence could get him caught or reveal his connection to the case. In his words:

"He (suspect) might be thinking, 'What is going through his mind is likely, 'Did I actually get away with this? Was I able to permanently conceal her body? And will there be any way that they won't be able to tie it to me?"

Jim further explained that the suspect could be trying hard to stay ahead of the investigation. He explained that such offenders often monitor media coverage of the case, talk to others for more information, and even try to gather alibis to prove they were absent when the crime occurred. At the same time, Jim noted that the kidnapper might also have changed his appearance, sold his vehicle, or taken similar steps to avoid leading investigators back to him/her. Yet, he believes that in the same bid, the suspect might have made some errors, which could lead to him. Sharing how it is not a perfect crime, Jim said:

"I firmly believe that the mistakes that this offender made during the course of committing this crime, and afterward, and even before actually committing the crime, in the pre-attack surveillance that appears to have happened, will lead to his being caught. There are things that he thought he did that were sophisticated, but they were not criminally sophisticated."

What does the blood found at Nancy Guthrie's Tucson home reveal?

One of the most important clues in the case concerns the blood evidence found at Nancy Guthrie's home. Jim carefully analysed the crime scene and blood patterns. Soon, he explained that the way blood was smeared at Nancy's home, it suggests there was a possible conflict between her and the suspect. He explained that blood would have fallen on the floor because either she was on her knees, hunched over, or actually lying on the ground.

At the same time, Jim pointed out that there are two types of blood splatter: low-velocity and medium-velocity. He suggests that the presence of medium-velocity patterns in the case suggests that Nancy might have coughed up the blood after being injured. Jim also believes that the sudden disappearance of the blood trail suggests that she might have been picked up and carried away, possibly with her face turned upward. It might be a deliberate attempt by the suspect to avoid more bloodshed.

What has happened in Nancy Guthrie's case so far?

The case of Nancy Guthrie started on February 1, 2026, when she was reported missing from her home in Tucson, Arizona. Authorities believe that she was possibly abducted from her home during the early hours of the day. Later, the FBI recovered video footage from the doorbell camera that suggested a masked person was near the residence. Yet, the person's identity has not been confirmed until now. In fact, investigators found some crucial forensic evidence from the scene, but none of it has led them to a suspect.

It includes blood found at Nancy's home that matched her sample, a glove found two miles away from her home, which is similar to the one worn by the masked man, and some hair. On the other hand, the authorities have announced a USD 1 million reward for leads in the case. In turn, they received thousands of leads, but nothing has led them to any critical evidence in the case.
