Hana Kuraki was reportedly in an abusive relationship with her ex-boyfriend, Shota Taira. He is a high-earning, prominent star host in Kabukicho, and some reports claim that he is four years older than the late 25-year-old. Shota's name has come up in relation to his ex-girlfriend, Hana Kuraki's death. According to the latest reports, investigators found a note left behind by the Japanese adult industry star.
In the note, Hana described the dire situations she faced in the months leading up to her death. She mentioned that Shota broke into her home with a key and stole valuables in November 2025. The incident reportedly took place after she tried to break up with him, leaving him infuriated. He was even arrested a month later on suspicion of assault and theft. After that, Shota Taira's father reportedly started threatening her.
It led Hana Kuraki to reluctantly agree to a settlement, but they reportedly did not honour its terms. After her death, her friend, Sakito shared a tribute post for her on X (formerly Twitter). In the post, he described her deteriorating mental state due to her alleged unhealthy relationship with Shota Taira. Sakito shared that Hana used to confide in him about her relationship with Shota.
Sakito added that there were times when she seemed "really distressed" and asked people to refrain from spreading rumors about her and Shota's dynamics. Hana Kuraki reportedly felt that she had no way out of her abusive relationship, as Shota knew her family's address and could show up uninvited.

Just three months before Hana Kuraki's passing, in June 2026, Shota Taira was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run case. An onlooker told media outlets that Shota accelerated his car while Hana tried to get in. She was reportedly dragged across the pavement by the in-motion vehicle, which left her with severe facial and jaw injuries. After the incident, Hana announced an indefinite hiatus to heal from her injuries. She wrote:
"Announcement: I've decided to take a break for a while, so I'll be suspending activities for a certain period. (I do want to keep up with filming if I can). As for the events currently scheduled, I'll provide an update when I can."
Hana's death prompted the resurfacing of the leaked documents, which included a court settlement regarding the assault and theft, and an apology letter from Shota Taira. As per a report by Inside Japan, Hana Kuraki was in deep pain due to being in an abusive relationship. She suffered in silence, fearing Shota wouldn't let her off easily if she tried to end things with him.
Additionally, Hana once revealed that whatever money she earned by working was taken from her. All these details have been surfacing one after another amid the investigation into Hana Kuraki's death. It's currently suspected to be a suicide stemming from domestic violence, but nothing has been proven yet.
