Nancy Guthrie Case, Who Is Jay McCalmont? Is He Involved In Savannah Guthrie's Mother's Kidnapping?

The search for Nancy Guthrie has crossed two months, with no hopeful news regarding the 84-year-old's survival. In April 2026, the case saw new development as a new name (Jay McCalmont) emerged in the kidnapping case of Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie's mother. The new information emerged a few days after an anonymous source sent a ransom note to TMZ, sharing that Nancy was no longer alive and that the ransom demanded was to know her body and who he abductors were. Amid that, here's everything we know about the new name getting linked to Nancy's case, i.e., Jay McCalmont.

Who is Jay McCalmont? How did his name get linked with Nancy Guthrie's case?

Jay McCalmont is an individual whose name surfaced in social media discussions in connection with the abduction case of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie. Jay's name was linked to Nancy's kidnapping, not because of any official update from the investigators involved in the search for the elderly woman. The person's name started making headlines after investigative reporter, Jonathan Lee Riches (better known as JLR) took to X (formerly Twitter) to make explosive claims about him. According to JLR, Jay McCalmont was a friend of Nancy's who often visited her house.

JLR added that Jay was no longer on good terms with Nancy after an alleged fallout over a financial dispute. Some online reports mention Jay's age as being close to Nancy Guthrie's, hinting he is in his 80s. However, it is worth noting that all claims regarding the new individual linked to Savannah's mother's case were based on unverified information. The tweet of JLR that started the buzz around Jay McCalmont could be read as:

"Nancy Guthrie had a friend who used to come over to her home all the time named Jay McCalmont. They had a falling out years ago over a money dispute."

Latest update regarding Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping case

Recent information received regarding Nancy Guthrie's case suggested that she may no longer be alive. A series of notes sent to TMZ in April 2026, from an anonymous individual claimed that Nancy Guthrie is "dead" and was ready to reveal everything they knew about the case, including where the elderly woman's body was. The individual simultaneously demanded one Bitcoin to deliver information about the abductors of Savannah Guthrie's mother "on a silver platter." Notably, the notes arrived on the same day Savannah returned to host the Today Show. The public is curious about whether the two events were linked.

According to The New York Post, the latest ransom note was sent by the same mystery person who had demanded one bitcoin in exchange for information on Nancy Guthrie's disappearance nearly two months ago. The anonymous source also expressed frustration, stating that they have been reaching out to the media outlet since February 11, 2026, but the notes have been "disregarded as a scam." They expressed disbelief that millions have already been spent on the search for Nancy; however, they were unwilling to spend one bitcoin on the source, who repeatedly offered to help themself.

The source termed the authorities' attempt to solve Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping case without external help as "arrogance at its finest." The Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI are leading the search. Despite evidence of foul play in Savannah's mother's disappearance, including bloodstains found at her home, officials maintained there is no conclusive evidence of her death. However, the anonymous source's claims were contradictory. Their letter's contents could be read as:

"She [Nancy Guthrie] is dead... It's unbelievable that millions have been wasted and yet here I am willing to deliver them on a silver platter since February 11 for a bitcoin but I am disregarded as a scam...they are free and the case is frozen but the ego's remain hot when it comes to me.
