Earlier this year, 2026, the two welcomed their first child together, and the separation decision left many wondering what might have gone wrong between the couple. The ex-couple announced their breakup with two separate Instagram Stories.
Jay and Lala took to their Instagram handle and shared separate Instagram Stories, talking about their separation. They revealed that they had mutually decided to go their separate ways. However, in their separation announcement, they clarified that there is no bad blood between them.
They also mentioned that they still have love and respect for each other as they navigate the next chapter as a family and focus on co-parenting their daughter. They added that currently they want to focus on their own growth. The two also mentioned that there is no big story behind their breakup. A part of their note can be read as:
"Just wanted to share for our supporters since so much of our relationship has been public. Nyelah and I have mutually decided to go our separate ways for now and focus on ourselves. There's no bad blood, no big story behind it, and we have nothing but love and respect for each other."
Further, they noted that they would continue to show up together as a family for their daughter. And their fans are going to keep seeing them together from time to time. They concluded the note by stating that they are at peace with the decision and requested privacy for their family. The IG story can be read as:
"Most importantly, we'll always be a family and continue showing up together for our daughter, so you'll still see us all together from time to time. We're at peace with this decision and just ask that our privacy is respected as we navigate this new chapter."
It is worth mentioning that the two statements didn't point to infidelity or another specific person's involvement as the cause of their separation. However, to keep the dignity of their relationship, they have decided not to let the details of their separation out in public.
Jay and Lala's relationship made headlines in 2025. The two announced they were expecting their first child in December 2025. However, they got engaged during their baby shower as Jay went down on his knees to propose to Lala in front of their family and friends.
The couple's relationship also attracted a lot of attention, including a family trip to Italy in September 2026. Lala and Jay's breakup announcement came within six months of their daughter's birth.
