Gisele and Tom had been married for 13 years, but the divorce was difficult for her to process. An insider told PEOPLE that Gisele never thought she and Tom would part ways, but she isn't bitter. As per the source:
“She always thought she would be married to Tom for the rest of her life. The divorce was very upsetting, and she struggled to understand it at the time, but she’s not bitter. She is grateful for their children and the years they shared. She’s very spiritual, and looking back, she feels the universe had another plan for her.”
What led to Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen’s divorce?
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen first met through mutual friends and tied the knot in 2009. In 2022, rumors circulated that the couple was parting ways and planning to file for divorce. Soon, Tom shared a heartfelt note on his IG confirming his separation from Gisele. In the note, he wrote that they are separating after 13 years of marriage and that the decision was amicable.
Before ending their 13-year marriage, Gisele Bundchen tried everything to mend it. According to a book, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, author Lars Anderson wrote that Gisele gave Tom a ‘serious’ handwritten letter after the 2018 Super Bowl and revealed that their marriage wasn’t working out.
According to Anderson, Brady’s desire to keep playing football strained his marriage with Gisele. She allegedly pushed him to retire after the 2017 Super Bowl, when the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons. But Brady was in no mood to announce his retirement. For Tom, everything revolved around his game, and his lifestyle did, too. According to his teammate, Tom followed a schedule and never changed it.
Managing everything on her own was becoming too much, and Gisele was tired of living in her husband’s shadow. Anderson also revealed that Gisele wanted Brady to be present when he was home. Elaborating on how she wished to have some time for herself, Anderson elaborated:
“She needed more of him, more of his time, more of his attention, more of his heart. Not responding to text messages on his constantly buzzing cell phone or replaying a game in his mind. She needed more help with the kids. She needed the chance to sleep in just a few days a week. She needed more time for her own career.”
According to Anderson, Brady and Bundchen went to couples counseling, but nothing worked. An insider close to Brady told Anderson that after trying everything, Gisele, who is into astrology, looked into the stars and told Tom, ‘We’re not compatible’.
