She not only won the hearts of people from UP, Bihar, but she became the nation’s favourite. It was a pleasant surprise when Shilpa had decided on forever with her businessman boyfriend, Raj Kundra. On November 22, 2009, Raj and Shilpa’s union solemnised into the wedding and they said “I do” to each other.
Almost three years to their happy wedding, Raj and Shilpa welcomed their first baby together on May 21, 2012. And ever since this happy family of four has been reigning everyone’s heart. Be it their anniversary and birthday wishes on social media, their workout together, the Sunday binge that they make the best of it, Shilpa, Raj and Viaan are pure family goals. In an interaction with the Bombay Times recently, Shilpa Shetty Kundra talked about her and Raj’s son, Viaan Raj Kundra. When she was asked what a normal life for a celebrity kid is, she was quoted as saying, "I’m from non-film background and I come from a middle-class family, where our holidays were spent in Matheran, not London. Today, I am not apologetic about being able to take Viaan on a vacation to London. I make it a point that he understands and appreciates everything he has. Raj and I think he should not grow up with a sense of entitlement."
Further, she revealed that whenever he wants something extra, he digs out his money bank. Also, he picks his own plate to the kitchen when he is done with the food. Here’s what the 44-year-old actress remarked, "If he wants something extra, he has to dig into his piggy box for it. He has to pick his own plate and take it to the kitchen. We follow some basic rules to ensure he understands that everything in life has to be earned, and nothing and no one can be taken for granted. He also knows that he has to adjust with the rest of things that are a part of his life because he’s our son." Earlier, in an interaction with the Hindustan Times, Shilpa had fondly talked about her son and was quoted as saying, “As a child, Viaan has no sense of why people are coming to take pictures of me. He still doesn’t know the concept of being popular and famous. I can see that he has now gradually started to get his head around it. Now he is like, ‘mama you are famous’.”
In the same chat, she also revealed that Viaan questions her about being an actor and why everyone at his school calls her by her name. Shilpa had remarked, “Whenever he sees me on the television, he knows that I am famous. His friends call me Shilpa Shetty and he often gets curious and asks, ‘why do they call you Shilpa Shetty?’. In a recent chat with a leading daily, Shilpa has expressed her desire to coming back on-screen. The Dhadkan actress remarked, “Yes, I am considering it. There are three scripts that I am going through at the moment, but I haven’t given the nod yet. Over the years, I’ve had targets set for myself as a mother, homemaker and a businesswoman. Come what may, I had to meet those targets. Women, somehow, are born with the ability to manage everything well, without making a fuss, but in all of it, her child is her top priority.”
Shilpa further added, “Now that my son Viaan spends longer hours at school, I have more time to do things that interest me. For the first seven years of being a mother, I didn’t sign a movie because my son needed my attention and I wanted to be there for him. I have no regrets about doing that. It’s not like I stopped working, I just did it at my own pace and made choices that I felt great about. Today, people appreciate the way I have reinvented myself and stayed relevant without headlining a movie in 11 years.”
On May 21, 2018, it was Viaan’s sixth birthday and she had taken to her Instagram handle to wish him. Sharing a series of pictures, Shilpa had written, “21st May 2012 A new me was born. 6 years today. The dichotomy of wanting you to be my baby forever and excitement of seeing you grow up and your achievements in this life. Difficult choices!! Want to hold you in my arms for longer today, like when you were a baby. The toddler is gone, now there’s a little boy and tomorrow there will be a young man in his place, but you will always be my baby.
