Prateik Babbar, son of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil, and his long-time writer girlfriend, Sanya Sagar, daughter of BSP leader Pawan Sagar, finally became husband and wife on January 23, 2019. Prateik and Sanya’s pre-wedding festivities kick-started on January 22, 2019, with haldi and mehendi ceremonies. For the mehendi ceremony, while Sanya looked pretty in a yellow outfit accessorised with flower tiara, Prateik looked dapper in a kurta pyjama and green stole. On January 23, 2019, Prateik finally came with the Band Baaja Baaraat to take his dulhaniya, Sanya. BSP chief Mayawati, SP President Akhilesh Yadav and many other politicians attended their wedding. While Sanya looked graceful as a bride decked up in red, Prateik wore a beige coloured sherwani for his wedding. A wedding reception was also held in the evening and the newly-weds looked a perfect 'made for each other' couple in their ravishing outfits. Prateik and Sanya’s wedding was a two-day long affair that took place in her hometown, Lucknow and reportedly the newly-married couple will host a wedding reception for their friends from the industry soon in Mumbai. A source had earlier told to Mumbai Mirror, "They have known each other for almost a decade but have been dating for only around two years and are excited to take their relationship to next level." Prateik and Sanya have known each other for nine years and he had earlier revealed that before tying the knot, he would want to enjoy their courtship period for a year or two. Prateik had shared with Mumbai Mirror, "I’ve been mentally ready for marriage for a while now as I believe it gives a relationship substance." Sanya is a graduate from National Institute of Fashion Technology and holds a degree in filmmaking from London Film Academy. Both their parents are in politics but it's their love for cinema that brought the two together. Announcing his engagement with Sanya on January 22, 2018, Prateik had shared the following picture with Sanya and captioned it, “#monday.. holy snappp!.. that just happened!". To which Sanya (who is by the name of 'pynkmoss' on Instagram) replied, “Yus ba, sharing the news with thby” with a heart emoticon. Talking about his engagement with Mumbai Mirror, Prateik earlier said "Sanya and I, along with our families, decided that something as pure as love should be solemnised on an auspicious day and what better day than Basant Panchami. She’s the best partner I could have asked for. It didn’t take me long to figure out that she was the one for me. I know it sounds clichéd, but I can’t stop counting my blessings and thanking God for all the good that is happening in my life."
Revealing what kind of wedding he is expecting, Prateik had earlier stated, “But we want to enjoy this courtship period for a year or two; Sanya will shuttle between Mumbai and Lucknow. We haven’t thought about the wedding yet, but if I had my way, I would love a beach wedding or a simple temple wedding.” He continued, “I’ve been mentally ready for marriage for a while now as I believe it gives a relationship substance. Nothing will change, life will only get even more beautiful.” On collaborating with his would-be-wife someday, Prateik said, “It is on our minds.
