Actress, Neena Gupta had always been ahead of her times. At a time when extra-marital affairs were a tabooed subject, Neena went ahead and gave birth to Masaba Gupta, out of wedlock. Neena had an affair with an already married West Indies cricket team captain, Vivian Richards and didn’t think twice before giving birth to their child. Neena and Masaba share a great bond with each other and are one another’s biggest cheerleaders.

When Neena Gupta had turned 61 on June 4, 2020, Masaba Gupta had penned a heart-melting birthday wish for her mother. Masaba had taken to her Instagram handle and had shared a throwback picture of Neena with an adorable caption which could be read as “Happy Birthday mom. Thanks for never letting me think the sun shines out of my backside - it’s been the greatest lesson in humility ever. @neena_gupta.”
Neena Gupta had penned her autobiography titled, Sach Kahu Toh, which is going to release soon. On May 26, 2021, Masaba Gupta took to her IG handle and shared an excerpt from the book, where Neena had talked about the time when she was pregnant with Masaba and couldn’t afford a c-section due to her financial constraints.
Neena’s doting daughter, Masaba captioned her post as “An excerpt from ‘Sach Kahun Toh’ by @neena_gupta: When I was born, my mum had Rs 2000/- in her bank account. A timely tax reimbursement would bump that number up to Rs 12,000/- and ofcourse I was a C-section baby. As I read mom’s biography, I learn so many things & the hardships she has had to endure. I work very hard every single day of my life and never ever let anyone not give me what I deserve only to make sure I can pay her back for bringing me into this world...with interest! #sachkahuntoh #neenagupta (sic).”

In an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Neena Gupta had opened up about the void she had felt in her life because of the absence of a boyfriend or husband. When asked whether she had battled loneliness, Neena had replied, “Very often. It happened all my life. Because I didn't have a boyfriend or husband for many years. In fact, my father was my boyfriend; he was the man of the house. It has happened when I was disrespected at work.” Neena had further stated that she had never dwelled on her loneliness or let her past take a toll on her.
Neena, who has brilliantly raised her daughter, the ace fashion designer, Masaba Gupta is an inspiration to all the single mothers. In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, Neena had talked about her regret of having a child out of wedlock. She revealed, “I would not have a child outside marriage. Every child needs both parents. I was always honest with Masaba, so it did not affect our relationship, but I know she suffered.”
