Raising a child single-handedly is one of the most difficult things for a woman and actress, Neena Gupta is among the few, who did a brilliant job in doing so. At a time when extra-marital affairs were a tabooed subject, Neena went ahead and gave birth to Masaba Gupta, out of wedlock. She had single-handedly raised Masaba, without taking support from anyone.
Neena and Masaba share a warm bond with one another. From being each other’s biggest cheerleaders to best critics, they are the perfect example of mother-daughter goals. The duo had shared the screen together for the first time in the Netflix series, Masaba Masaba.
In an interview with SpotboyE, Neena Gupta revealed that having Masaba was the best decision of her life. Revealing how she would like to change certain things if she gets to live her life again, the Badhaai Ho actress said, “Having Masaba is the best decision of my life. But if I had to live my life again I’d want to have a family and a husband to support my parenthood. I’d want the child’s father with me. Not so far away.”
There is no doubt that Neena has brilliantly raised Masaba and had sacrificed a lot while doing so. Her decision to give birth to Masaba had sent shock waves in the entertainment industry. Calling Masaba the most valuable thing of her life, Neena stated, “What I’ve got is most precious, Sure, I made sacrifices. But it’s all worth it. Masaba is the best thing to happen to my life."
For the unversed, it was in the 80s, when Neena had fallen in love with West Indies cricket team captain, Vivian Richards, who was already a married man. Not only was she head-over-heels in love with him but had also given birth to his daughter, Masaba Gupta.
On May 26, 2021, Masaba Gupta had taken to her IG handle and had shared an excerpt from the book, Sach Kahun Toh, where Neena had talked about the time when she was pregnant with Masaba and couldn’t afford a c-section due to her financial constraints.
Masaba captioned her post as “An excerpt from ‘Sach Kahun Toh’ by @neena_gupta: When I was born, my mum had Rs 2000/- in her bank account. A timely tax reimbursement would bump that number up to Rs 12,000/- and ofcourse I was a C-section baby. As I read mom’s biography, I learn so many things & the hardships she has had to endure. I work very hard every single day of my life and never ever let anyone not give me what I deserve only to make sure I can pay her back for bringing me into this world...with interest! #sachkahuntoh #neenagupta (sic).”
