Veteran actress, Neena Gupta is the perfect example of women empowerment, who was always ahead of her times. In an era when even love marriages were considered a taboo, Neena gave birth to her daughter, Masaba out of wedlock. Neena had worked day and night to raise Masaba and donned the hat of a father and mother for her. We have often seen how Neena talks about the regret of having a child outside marriage as she knew her daughter needed both the parents.

Talking about Neena Gupta’s love life, it was never a bed of roses. From having an affair with actor, Alok Nath to her wedding with Shaarangdev, son of Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj, being called off, Neena’s personal life saw many ups and downs. After the heartbreak, when Neena had met West Indies cricket team captain, Vivian Richards, he was already a married man. Neena had fallen madly in love with him and had given birth to his daughter, Masaba Gupta. At the age of 49, Neena had married a Delhi-based Chartered Accountant, Vivek Mishra.
In an interview with RJ Siddharth Kannan, Neena Gupta opened up about the void she felt in her life because of the absence of a boyfriend or husband. When asked whether she battled loneliness, Neena replied, “Very often. It happened all my life. Because I didn't have a boyfriend or husband for many years. In fact, my father was my boyfriend; he was the man of the house. It has happened when I was disrespected at work.” Neena further stated that she never dwelled her loneliness or her past take a toll on her and had always managed to move on.
When Neena was invited at the singing reality show, Indian Idol 11, the actress had revealed that it was her father, who had stood as a pillar of strength and had helped her raise her daughter as a single mother. Talking about the same, she had stated, "My father played a very important role in raising my daughter, he especially shifted to Mumbai to help me. I cannot express how thankful I am to him. He was my backbone during the most crucial time of my life."

Neena Gupta has brilliantly raised her daughter, Masaba Gupta. Masaaba is counted amongst one of the finest fashion designers in India. She was named as one of the “Ten Best Indian fashion designers” by style magazine, Culture Trip. In 2020, Masaba had made her acting debut and had starred in the Netflix series, Masaba Masaba with none other than her mother, Neena Gupta. The mother-daughter duo has always been each other’s pillar of strength.
In an interview with film critic, Rajeev Masand, Neena Gupta had spoken candidly about her daughter, Masaba. Commenting on her choice of depriving Masaba of her father and a normal family, Neena Gupta had stated it was selfish on her part. She was quoted as saying, "Very much. All the time. I feel it was a very selfish act on my part. Some of my friends told me it won’t be fair on part of the child, but kaun sunnta hai uss waqat, blind hotey hain (who listens at that age, people are blind). I also feel sad because she was lonely. I wish I had another child but circumstances weren’t like that."

Neena was recently seen in the film, Sardar Ka Grandson along with Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh.
