Aamir Khan’s equitable bonding with both his ex-wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, is a perfect example of modern relations. Despite the actor's divorce from both his wives, he continues to remain cordial with them and does not cease to remain their biggest supporter. Talking about Kiran, the ex-couple are not just co-parents to their baby boy, Azaad, but are also joint partners for their production house.
In a recent interaction with Connect FM Canada, Kiran Rao talked about her equation with her ex-husband, Aamir Khan. The filmmaker revealed that at the very beginning of their relationship, they started off working together, and their equation remains the same even today. Moreover, Kiran added that their understanding goes beyond just the marital relationship, as they find themselves creatively close. She mentioned:
“It came naturally to us because we started off working together, and even after we became partners, we continued working together. We understand each other in a way that goes beyond just the marital relationship. We are creatively very close. We also share similar opinions on many issues. We had a very familial, honest relationship. That’s something that you can’t erase and you don’t want to because that’s the basis for our relationship.”

Moving further in the conversation, Kiran Rao claimed that she never had any major fallouts with her husband, Aamir Khan, and added that they chose to quit their marriage only because they wished to redefine their relationship. She mentioned that both of them wished to remain as a family but not married. Adding how they didn’t want to put a tag to their relationship, Kiran said:
“We never even had any acrimonious fallouts or big fights. We just wanted to redefine our relationship. We wanted to remain a family, but not be married. So we just made our own rules. I don’t think relationships can be given social tags. This just happens to be unusual for people, that two divorced individuals want to continue working together, live in the same building, have meals often, etc. I would not have been happy if the dissolution of our marriage had resulted in the end of our relationship.”
In the concluding segment of the interaction, Kiran Rao revealed that she has been able to influence her ex-husband, Aamir Khan on many decisive levels, since they connect with each other quite easily on creative levels. Moreover, Kiran revealed that Aamir values her opinions very seriously, despite the fact that he likes to stride on his own path. She mentioned:
“He has sought my opinion on many occasions. I suppose since we think similarly on so many levels, I have also been able to influence him. Though he’s always been the person who follows his own path, he values my opinion quite a lot. And it’s nice to hear that.”

Previously, in an interview with The Week, Kiran Rao talked about the warm and close equation she continues to share with not just her ex-husband, Aamir Khan, but also his first ex-wife, Reena Dutt and the latter’s children, Ira and Junaid. The filmmaker revealed that all of the family members are really close and inclusive by nature and they’re a family. She also revealed sharing independent equations with her former sisters-in-law, and added that these are some cherished relationships which she cannot let go off, even after divorce.
