Stella Parton Reveals Dolly Parton's Final Request, Speaks On Sister's 'Broken Heart' Before Passing

No details about the same were made public; however, following her death, her team shared a statement and revealed that the singer had a brief battle with cancer.
Concerns about Dolly Parton's health began in September 2025, when the singer canceled a few of her shows; however, details were kept strictly private. Dolly not only kept things from her fans but also from some of her family members, as shared by her sister, Stella. Stella recently sat for an interview on CBS Mornings, where she revealed Dolly Parton's last request and also discussed whether the late country music legend was heartbroken before passing after losing her husband, Carl Thomas Dean.
Stella Parton reveals the last thing that Dolly Parton requested while talking about her sister's heartbreak
Speaking on CBS Mornings, Dolly Parton's sister, Stella, revealed that the last thing her sister asked for was 'prayer'. Speaking more about Dolly Parton, Stella revealed that the former was 'very sad' over her husband, Carl Thomas Dean's passing in March 2025. Stella was asked if Carl Dean's passing was the catalyst for the country music legend's health issues.
To this, Stella replied that, according to her, it was not the case; rather, she believed her sister worked really hard and didn't take care of herself enough in the process. According to Stella, Dolly Parton neglected her health while taking care of her husband, 'to a point'. Stella believed that her sister's relationship with Carl Dean was unique, while admitting that the singer was heartbroken to see her husband in that shape before he passed away. Stella said:
"I don't think that's why she got sick. I think she worked too hard and didn't maybe take as good of care of herself as she should have. I know their relationship was very unique and very deep and loyal. And I think it broke her heart to see him in the shape that he got to before he passed away."

Carl Thomas Dean and Dolly Parton had been married for nearly 60 years. It was in March 2025 that Carl Dean's death was confirmed; however, the reason for his death was not made public. There had been several reports about Carl Dean suffering from Alzheimer's; however, it was never officially confirmed.
However, according to Stella, Carl's passing was not the catalyst for Dolly's health issues. Stella stated that work was Dolly's passion, and she kept working even when she had her last conversation with her sister. Stella, who is one of Dolly's 11 siblings, revealed on CBS Mornings:
"But I don't think that's what made her sick. I think my sister worked so hard for so long and just kept going. Even to the last conversation I had with her, she was working. That was her passion."
Dolly Parton spoke about the 'hardest part' of living alone following her husband, Carl Thomas Dean's passing
Before her death, in an interview with the Associated Press, Dolly Parton spoke about the 'hardest part' after the death of her husband of 58 years, Carl Thomas Dean. She mentioned that she believed that she would see him one day, while admitting that she used to see her husband every day, in her 'heart or memories and in the things that they used to do'.

Dolly Parton shared that she would have to learn to 'make new plans', which she felt was the 'hardest thing' to do. She also talked about feeling Carl Thomas Dean's presence after his death, and talked about the health battle her husband faced before his passing. She said:
“I really feel his presence. I just try to go on, because I know I have to. And he was ill for quite a while, and part of me was at peace that he was at peace and not suffering anymore. But that still doesn’t make up for the loss and the loneliness of it.”
