'I'm Not Married', Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal Reveals The Strict Rule That Barred Him From Marrying

After a lot of speculation, Rishabh has now finally opened up about the deeply personal reasons behind his premature retirement. He also opened up about the sacrifices he had to make while being an ADC, clarifying that his decision was driven by family responsibilities and not any personal dissatisfaction.
Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal had to make a difficult choice between his duty and family
Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal never considered wearing a uniform as just a career path. Instead, it was a lifelong dream come true for him. He recently sat down for a chat with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Figuring Out and explained that he never imagined stepping away from the Army. Especially after he dedicated more than a decade of his life pursuing and living that dream.
However, he recently found himself at a crossroad where he had to choose between personal aspirations and responsibilities towards his parents. So, rather than prioritising his ambitions, he decided to be present for the people who supported him in his journey. In his words:
"I have a responsibility as a son. There were commitments, and there still are. I have to fulfil them. I had to take a call. I had to make a sacrifice. What is the biggest sacrifice other than your parents in this world? I was in a situation where I could either choose myself or my parents. I didn't want to be a selfish man. I didn't want to spend my life thinking, 'I should have done that.' I'm here because of them. I'm here for them and for myself."
According to Rishabh, leaving the Army was not an impulsive decision. He described it as painful to make the call but an important sacrifice, which he made after careful thinking and discussions with his family. Despite the end of his military career earlier than expected, he admitted that he is proud of every moment he spent serving the nation.
Apart from his retirement, Major Rishabh was also asked about the biggest sacrifice he had to make to become the ADC to the President of India. In turn, he revealed that during his tenure as ADC to the President of India, he had to follow strict protocols, which limited his personal life.
One of the most significant restrictions was that ADCs are not allowed to marry during their tenure. At the same time, he addressed the rumours that he retired due to his marriage plans. But Rishabh clarified that he has not married and has no immediate plans to tie the knot. Sharing his thoughts, he said:
"Yes. I'm not married. There is a clause that ADCs to the President cannot get married during their tenure. They have to stay away from their family. I think that is the biggest sacrifice. You don't really have a life outside. While serving with the President, I can't go out and enjoy life like a normal human being."
The former officer admitted that the role came with loneliness as he spent long periods away from his family with limited personal duty. In fact, the constant demands of public duty meant that he had to sacrifice many experiences, which people take for granted. Yet, he had a different viewpoint and saw it as an opportunity for self-reflection.

Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal stepped into the military path after he cleared the National Defence Academy exam and trained at the Indian Military Academy. Eventually, he became a part of the Indian Army. During his career, he served with distinction and joined the elite 4 Para (Special Forces). For those who don't know, it is one of the Army's most respected units. His service earned him honours such as the Balidaan Badge, which is given only to a few Special Forces volunteers.
He also rose to fame after he led the Jat Regiment Contingent during the 2021 Republic Day parade and won the Best Marching Contingent Trophy for his unit. Later, he was appointed as ADC to President Droupadi Murmu, which made him an important part of many high-profile national and international engagements.
Meanwhile, his public appearances with her used to go viral on the internet, where his confident personality and sharp appearance made him a social media sensation. Some internet users also gave him the title of "National Crush."
