According to reports, before LeBron James signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, he “had been angling” for a scenario where the Cleveland Cavaliers would acquire Kyrie Irving in a trade. However, to his disappointment, the Dallas Mavericks showed “no interest” in trading him. As the buzz surrounding him continues, the focus has shifted to Kyrie’s personal life, especially his wife, Marlene Wilkerson.
Kyrie Irving's wife, Marlene Wilkerson, was born on August 18, 1993, in Los Angeles, California. Those close to her often refer to her by her nickname Nene despite her first name being Marlene.
After Marlene graduated from high school, she attended California State University, Dominguez Hills. Here, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and went on to work behind the scenes in entertainment. As she continued to face a lot of rejection, Marlene came up with the idea to “create” her own career path. She explained in a YouTube video:
"When I went into school, my initial plan was to work behind the scenes...I'm a very private person, but I like marketing, I like the entertainment industry. Everyone was telling me ‘no,’ and I had no experience, so I decided to just go for something completely different.”
In 2015, Marlene decided to open her own online shop, The Find Guru. Utilising her marketing skills, she sold clothing items that she promoted on Instagram and YouTube. She wanted her business to become a “one-stop shop” where her followers could find the same pieces she wore on her social media handles. Marlene said:
"I did not have a lot of followers on Instagram; I didn't have a YouTube channel at all, so I literally started from ground zero. My business model was I would find products from wholesale manufacturers, and I would obtain a certain amount of inventory. I would put a picture on Instagram, and I would sell out of the clothing that I would wear.”
Alongside this, Marlene started her clothing company and a YouTube channel in the same year. While she initially started the channel to promote her company, she can also be seen posting several personal videos about her life. This includes everything from beauty tips and advice about fashion to her fitness routine. At present, her channel has over 751k subscribers.
Coming to Marlene’s relationship with Kyrie Irving, the duo have kept the details about the early days of their romance under wraps. However, as per reports, they were spotted together for the first time in 2018 when Marlene attended the first annual Kyrie Invitational, which is the NBA star’s youth basketball tournament. It is worth mentioning that they didn't confirm their relationship at the time.
This is why they left fans surprised when they got engaged less than a year later. It was during an outing in September 2019 that Marlene was seen sporting a large diamond on her ring finger. Over the years, the couple has also welcomed two children together.
For those curious, neither Kyrie nor Marlene have officially confirmed that they have tied the knot. Despite this, it is believed that they are married, as Marlene often refers to Kyrie as her spouse. For instance, in a YouTube video, Marlene shared that the basketball player had helped her deliver their first baby. Praising him, she called him “the greatest partner, the greatest husband I could ever have.”
In a different video, she elaborated on her relationship with Kyrie by saying they had gone through a lot together. She added:
"He put a light on a lot of different things that ultimately were dark spaces within myself, and by doing that, we were able to open and deepen our connection, and I was ultimately able to become a better version of myself ... and I’m still learning."
