According to court documents obtained by TMZ and E! News, La La and Carmelo's divorce was finalized on November 4, 2026, after the former couple submitted their confidential settlement agreement to the New York County Supreme Court. Their son, Kiyan, is now 19 and no longer a factor in the child support agreement.
The news has brought renewed attention to La La's past comments about their on-and-off relationship and the alleged infidelity that she said contributed to the breakdown of their marriage.
La La Anthony once said she 'never slept' amid Carmelo's alleged cheating
La La and Carmelo were together for years before getting married in 2010. They initially separated in 2017, reconciled for a few years, and eventually split again in June 2021, when La La filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Although neither has publicly addressed every aspect of their marital difficulties, their infidelity allegations have repeatedly made headlines over the years.
During a 2022 appearance on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast, La La got candid about the emotional toll of being married to Carmelo. The actress explained at the time that committing to a relationship with a high-profile athlete did not make her feel more secure. Instead, she found herself dealing with even greater anxiety.
When host Cooper suggested that becoming an athlete's official partner might ease the uncertainty of wondering what he was doing while traveling, La La disagreed. She recalled losing sleep worrying about their highly publicized romance once her and Carmelo's relationship became more serious. She said:
"I never slept. I almost got more stressed once we committed because I felt like, 'Oh my God, now everyone's coming for me.'"
La La also spoke about how certain NBA road trips made her anxious about her partner's infidelity. While some cities Carmelo traveled to had reputations for being particularly lively, the actress eventually realized that her concerns extended beyond those destinations. She recalled instances where she discovered another woman was involved. Sharing her experience, she said:
"Be careful with these other cities that you think don't have as much going on... All of a sudden you're like, 'Oh no, there's a whole ass girlfriend there.'"
The former MTV personality also firmly shut down the unspoken expectation that becoming an NBA wife makes people expect that she should turn a blind eye to her husband's alleged affairs. "I never turned a blind eye to it. I addressed it, and ultimately that was part of the reason why I could no longer be in the relationship anymore," she said.
Why did La La and Carmelo Anthony split? His alleged affairs over the years
La La and Carmelo's relationship dates back to more than two decades. The couple began dating in 2004 and soon became one of basketball's most recognizable couples. After dating for a few years, they welcomed their son, Kiyan, in 2007, and tied the knot in 2010.
Over the next few years, the pair maintained their image as a stable couple, but things took a serious turn in 2017. The marriage faced public scrutiny when reports emerged that Carmelo had fathered a child with another woman. While neither addressed the buzz publicly, reports soon surfaced that the couple had separated, but they reconciled later.
In 2019, Carmelo was photographed on a yacht in the South of France alongside a woman identified in reports as model Sara Smiri. The images sparked fresh speculation about his marriage. Carmelo, however, denied the cheating rumors, saying the woman was on the yacht with her husband and that he was attending a business-related trip.
The spouses eventually separated again in June 2021, when La La filed for divorce. The two have kept their private life mostly out of the public eye, although La La has spoken at times about the challenges she faced in their marriage. She also talked about how difficult it was to leave a long-term relationship on Call Her Daddy.
The actress admitted that moving forward was not always easy, particularly because she and Carmelo shared a child, but the experience taught her about her own resilience. In her words:
"I learned how strong I am. When you hear friends going through stuff, it's like, 'I'm never going to make it through.' And then all of a sudden, you wake up, and you're like, 'Wait, I'm actually surviving.'"
Although their marriage has ended, La La and Carmelo continue to share a connection through their 19-year-old son, Kiyan.
