Well, as Kyle navigates this difficult time, it is none other than his wife, Mandy Shanahan, who continues to remain by his side.
Who is 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan's wife, Mandy Shanahan?
According to reports, Kyle Shanahan and his wife, Mandy Shanahan, first crossed paths when they attended Cherry Creek High School in Colorado. Here, their relationship began in the late ‘90s. After high school, Kyle went on to attend the University of Texas, where he used to play as a wide receiver for the football team. On the other hand, Mandy attended the University of Colorado to pursue a degree in English Literature. While the couple briefly split after high school, they once again reconnected in college.
It is worth mentioning that a tragedy in Mandy’s life is what brought the pair closer to each other. When Mandy was in college, she learned the news that her mother had been diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer. When she told Kyle about the same, he did his best to support her through this phase, even writing letters to her mother and flying home to visit his girlfriend during the weekends.
In a 2017 interview, Mandy admitted that Kyle completely stunned her. She said, “Kyle, hands down, got me through that. After going through that with him, I couldn't imagine being with anyone else.”
As their relationship progressed, Kyle and Mandy tied the knot in 2005, almost a decade after knowing each other. Even though the 49ers coach didn't think that he would ever get married at a young age, both he and Mandy realized that what they had was something really special once they graduated college. He said:
“I never planned on getting married at a young age. But then I understood, ‘Okay, you don’t necessarily get to pick when you get married. You get married when you find the right person.’ And I found her. So I changed my plans.”
Over the years of their marriage, the couple has welcomed three children together: Stella, Lexi, and Carter. Kyle once admitted that he had named Carter after the Grammy-winning musician Lil Wayne. Although he claimed that if he said it was 100 per cent true, his wife would kill him. He said:
“Tha Carter I started it, and I was just always into that. And when my wife told me she liked the name Carter, it was easy for me because I was pretty obsessed at the time.”
Mandy Shanahan is the biggest supporter of Kyle Shanahan's coaching career
For those who don't know, Kyle landed his first head coaching job with the San Francisco 49ers after his time as an offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons. However, many NFL analysts questioned whether Kyle would be successful in his new role. At the time, Mandy, who usually keeps her personal life private, did not back down from supporting her husband vocally. She said:
“You hear that he’s hard to reach, or he’s arrogant. Kyle’s been one of the most sensitive people I’ve ever been around, in a good way. He’s so in tune with people’s emotions and how people feel. And that’s what makes him such a gifted father and supporting husband.”
