Nitesh Tiwari’s much-awaited film, Ramayana, has been released worldwide and is receiving positive reviews. Backed by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios, the film features Ranbir Kapoor as 'Lord Rama', Sai Pallavi as 'Sita', and Yash as 'Ravana'. As the film opened to rave reviews, a part of the film received huge criticism.

Sai Pallavi’s fight sequence in Ramayana receives immense backlash

Sai Pallavi plays ‘Sita’ in the epic, and in one scene, she is shown fighting demons alongside 'Lord Rama'. Many users were unhappy with the scene and voiced their opinions on social media. One of the users wrote, “Another fraud from #Ramayana, or should I say Scamyana. We're seeing Sita Maa fight here, helping Shri Ram fight the 14,000-strong demon army of Khara and Dushana, while according to scriptures, Shri Ram fought all of them alone, sending Lakshman and Sita Maa away."

Some said 'Sita' never fought the demon army and that the scene was misleading, while others defended it and pointed to Sita's warrior avatar. Commenting on the same, a user wrote, “Why do people have a problem with Sita Maa's warrior appearance? In Adbhuta Ramayana, another version of the original Ramayana written by Valmiki, Sita Maa is described as a fierce divine force who destroys raakshasas."

All about the two different versions of ‘Sita’ in scriptures

In the Valmiki Ramayana, Sita is not described as fighting demons during her 14-year exile with her husband, Lord Rama. Rather, Ram’s brother, Lakshman, fought alongside his elder brother. However, in Adbhuta Ramayana, Sita is regarded as Goddess Shakti, who also takes the form of Mahakali to fight the demons. In Adbhuta Ramayana, Sita is shown as a warrior princess.

Filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari spoke about tweaking certain parts and characters of the epic. Speaking to international media at Ramayana's Los Angeles premiere, Nitesh revealed that Sai Pallavi’s character has an action sequence. In his words:

“So, she does have action in hers too. Maa Sita has, somewhere, as you mentioned, the warrior version. She, in Adbhuta Ramayana, is portrayed as a warrior princess. That element we took from there, which kind of adds a nice dimension to her as a character.”

Made on a reported budget of Rs. 1600 crore, Ramayana Part 1 is the most expensive Indian film ever made. Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman have collaborated for the first time to compose the film's music. The film also boasts many other Hollywood technicians. Sunny Deol plays 'Lord Hanuman' in the two films, but his character reportedly appears only in Part 2.

During an event in San Diego, director Nitish Tiwari spoke about the ending of Ramayana Part 1 and revealed that they have decided to end the first part on a cliffhanger. Earlier, several reports claimed that the second part of the film would be released in 2027, but Namit confirmed that part two will be released in 2028.
