Despite it, her zeal to live life never died; she kept documenting her cancer journey while she tried to live life normally and enjoy new experiences.
Sydney, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, died at 26, and her family shared the news with her followers on August 6, 2026, one day after her reported death. Her family shared a beautiful photo of Sydney from one of her treks. Atop the picture featured these beautiful words: "Rest in Peace Sydney Elizabeth Towle. An endless ray of sunshine. A daughter, a sister and friend to so many." Along with it, they penned a heartfelt note sharing that they were proud of her for how she fought. The post can be read as:
"We will always love you so much, Sydney. I am so proud of how hard you fought. I love you."
It is worth mentioning that just a day ago, Sydney's brother, Austin, shared that she was in hospice care and was surrounded by her family and friends. Sydney dealt with rare cancer for years and it was in the final stages. Austin shared a post on TikTok, and it read:
"Sydney has been moved to hospice and is surrounded by her friends and family. Thank you all for your love and support."
Sydney, who shares more than one million followers, expressed heartfelt messages for her and her family. One user wrote, "The most beautiful person changed forever by her sunshine!!!! This is unfathomably unfair. Sending so much love to her & her family and people."
Another commented, "Be at peace, angel. Also, I’d like to mention to people in the comments that parasocial relationships can cause real grief. Even though most of us did not know Syd, It’s OK to let ourselves be really sad. Allow the tears and take it slow. My deepest condolences to her friends and family and big gratitude to Syd for sharing the most intimate parts of her life with the world. You made a real difference, sunshine girl."
A third user penned, "I think I speak for so many people when I say Sydney changed our lives. Every moment with her felt like a warm hug and despite what she has been going through for the last 3 years, she never failed to exude positivity and hope to all of those around her. She is a one in a million human and I am so grateful to know her. Rest easy Squid we love you so so so much."
Sydney was just 23 years old when she was diagnosed with cholagiocaricinoma, which is a rare bile duct cancer. She documented her journey on TikTok and Instagram. She had undergone several surgeries and multiple clinical trials and countless chemotherapy sessions.
In May 2026, Sydney shared a video of herself with her mother by her side. She talked about getting treated for pain and other complications. Later, she shared that the doctors had told her that her cancer had spread and was present in her peritoneum which is the lining of the abdomen and pelvis.
The content creator revealed that her oncologist had refused to treat her cancer and urged her to begin end of life care. However, Sydney had chosen to switch to a new specialist. However, days after her doctor declined to treat her, she flew to Florida for Miami Swim Week and modeled in beachwear designed for post-cancer bodies.
