Jon Gosselin Likens His Ex-Wife Kate To Abusive YouTuber Ruby Franke, Says She Should Be In Jail

For those unaware, in the book, Collin took several digs at his mom, Kate Gosselin, and accused her of abusing him.
Jon had previously said that he “couldn't be more proud of his son’s heartbreaking memoir and his mission to help other victims of abuse.” Now, in a new interview, the Jon & Kate Plus 8 alum compared his ex-wife to abusive Mormon YouTuber Ruby Franke and suggested that she should be in jail.
Jon Gosselin claims that Kate Gosselin should be in jail just like Ruby Franke
Jon Gosselin appeared on the latest episode of the Legally Goff podcast. During the episode, he claimed that his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, should be locked up over the alleged abuse that she inflicted on their son, Collin Gosselin. While making the accusation, he likened Kate to the abusive Mormon YouTuber Ruby Franke. Jon said, “He was abused, and the abuser still walks free, and that's awful.”
According to Jon, Ruby Franke did less than what Collin accused Kate of doing in his bombshell memoir. But despite this, Ruby was sentenced to several years behind bars. He questioned what is wrong with the world and why it is different for celebrities like his ex-wife. In his words:
“Ruby Franke did less than what Collin is alleging — he’s saying in his book. And she went to jail for a long time. She just got sentenced. What, 30 years? Four counts of aggravated assault on a minor. It’s like, what is wrong with this world? Why is it different for celebrities?”
According to reports, Ruby is a former family vlogger who was sentenced to 4 to 30 years in prison in 2024 for aggravated child abuse. Consecutive second-degree felony sentences are capped at a maximum of 30 years in Utah. A case summary by the Washington County Attorney’s Office revealed that two of Ruby’s children were held in a “work-camp-like setting” and “were regularly denied food, water, beds to sleep in, and virtually all forms of entertainment.” At present, Ruby is held at the Utah State Correctional Facility in Salt Lake City.
Notably, Collin accused his mom, Kate, of keeping him in a “small holding cell” in their unfinished basement when he was a child. He said that his siblings and the TLC camera crews filming for their reality shows were not allowed to see him. He also revealed that Kate had sent him to a mental institution when he was just 11 years old.
Kate had denied all the allegations of abuse. She previously also defended her decision to put Collin in the mental institution, calling it “medically necessary.”
Jon Gosselin gave a ‘fair warning’ to Kate Gosselin
After likening Kate to Ruby in the podcast, Jon revealed that he is working with attorneys to possibly build a case against his ex-wife. This lines up with his recent warning to Kate, where he said that if she continued to falsely label Collin as ‘mentally ill,’ she would be held accountable.
During a conversation with US Weekly, Jon added that Collin had been evaluated by not one, but multiple independent psychiatrists and claimed those assessments disproved Kate’s repeated narratives about their son. He said:
"Repeating false claims about his mental health is damaging to his reputation, his credibility, and his future. Consider this fair warning: The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over."
