'Passenger' has been released on the big screens in India on May 29, 2026, a week after its release in the US. It brings a thrilling experience despite featuring familiar elements.
Andre Ovredal’s Passenger arrived in the US theatres on May 22, 2026. The movie has now been released in India on May 29, 2026. The supernatural horror created headlines with its trailer, which hinted at bringing a thrilling experience for the audience. Passenger has been released at a time when the market is completely overcrowded with horror films. Passenger has managed to deliver something unique, with a plot that features many suspenseful elements.
Featuring Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, and Melissa Leo, Passenger cannot be described as the best horror film of this year. However, it won’t leave anyone disappointed at the same time, once they come out of the theatres. Keep reading to know more!
The film's storyline centers on a couple who are chased by a demonic figure during a road trip. It is a concept that has been common in other movies and TV shows over the years. It is something that can be linked with real-life cases as well, where we have grown up listening to haunted stories about some empty roads. Passenger takes a good start by establishing the mood in the first few minutes.
There are enough tension-filled moments that will make the audience think about what is going on. The best among them is the crash scene, which has been filmed well. This is the moment where the viewers will feel like they are going on a different ride this time, without the inclusion of routine elements witnessed in horror films. Cinematography deserves specific praise here. The empty roads create sufficient tension inside anyone’s mind, making things unpredictable.
A horror film is expected to bring something new every time. Every filmmaker has attempted to do it over the last few years. However, the treatment is more important, and here is where Passenger goes through some ups and downs. While it is common for a horror film to depend on jump scares and bringing the evil face multiple times on screen, Passenger follows a route where anyone can easily see it coming. Overall, there is no element of surprise for the audience.
The main antagonist frequently faces the lead characters. While the writing is not up to the mark in those moments, they will keep viewers hooked to the screen. On the other hand, the frequent appearances of the villain might make a few people restless and eager to know the main mystery. Thankfully, due to the short runtime of 94 minutes, no one will feel like they need to leave the theatre as things move on at a fast pace. Although the story of the antagonist uses common things like medallions and people warning the leads in the disguise of weird behaviour, it does not leave the desired impact.
A few sequences can be considered to be the best in terms of creating horror. The first is the female lead entering a big parking space in the middle of the night to find a vehicle. There is no one in the parking lot. But the truth is seemingly very different than her imagination. Another is where the main pair is prepared to watch something in the woods, and the creature suddenly appears. The final moments are another highlight.
The story of Passenger does not have anything new or unique to offer to the audience. But apart from the horror elements, it is the performances of the lead actors that will make anyone sit through and go on this ride for once. The best here is Lou Llobell. The actress succeeds in expressing her emotions perfectly, specifically in those scenes where she is scared and tired at the same time.
Among other leads, Jacob Scipio’s character takes a very predictable route as he turns out to be someone who refuses to believe the things that are visible only to his partner. Melissa Leo’s character deserved better writing, considering that she is portrayed as someone who is well aware of the events that are going on and who is behind them. Joseph Lopez leaves an impact in certain portions by appearing in different forms throughout the film.
