Daveigh Chase felt her mom was putting her physical and mental well-being at risk
Now, Daveigh Chase’s friend and former business manager, John Ryan, is weighing in on her parents’ legal battle over the actress’ USD 400K estate. According to TMZ, Ryan filed a declaration opposing Cathy Chase's bid to be appointed as the administrator of Daveigh's estate. In the legal document, he said that the actress was estranged from her father when her parents divorced and later filed for a legal emancipation from her mother.
Ryan also claimed that Daveigh believed that her mother was taking advantage of her finances, putting her physical and mental well-being at risk. Ryan helped Daveigh connect with business professionals who could assist her with the emancipation process. As per the court documents, Ryan revealed:
“I am aware from my conversations with Daveigh that in the mid-2000s, she filed for legal emancipation from her mother. At that time, Daveigh told me that she wanted to take this action because she believed that her mother was taking advantage of Daveigh’s finances and putting Daveigh’s physical and mental well-being at risk. Thereafter, I introduced Daveigh to a few professionals that I believed may be able to assist her in the legal emancipation process.”

Daveigh’s mother, Cathy, is currently challenging her ex-husband John David Schwallier’s claim that the actress was emancipated from her. As per the court documents filed on August 19, 2026, Cathy does not concede that her daughter ever filed for or obtained a declaration of emancipation. Cathy also claimed that she had no knowledge of any such proceeding and had never been served with the required notice.
