Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has created waves across borders. Meanwhile, law enforcement has revealed that over 18,000 tips have been sent to them in the case.
Nancy Guthrie has been missing for over 11 days, and law enforcement has been working around the clock to find out where the Today show host, Savannah Guthrie's mother, is. While every little piece of evidence is a step in the right direction, Arizona's Family, in a recent report, has revealed that the FBI and law enforcement have received over 18,000 tips since Nancy's disappearance. While the number has been massive, they have urged the public to keep the tips coming, as no one knows which one might lead them to Nancy.
As law enforcement comb through the Catalina Foothills area, searching for clues regarding Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. The law enforcements are also constantly tracking down thousands of tips they have recieved from the public in Nancy's disapperance case. Matt Browning, a retired detective, has shared why the tips might be useful in the case and how the investigation works.
He has reacted to the overwhelming number of tips that have come through. In a conversation with AZ Family, Matt shared that while the law enforcement officials and the case workers know every detail of the scene, sometimes these tips can be the missing piece that nudges them in the right direction. He was quoted as saying:
"The law enforcement, the detectives working it, they know the ins and outs of this investigation. And as soon as someone comes in with a tip, they go, 'Oh, we are missing that piece, it goes right there.' That person is now going to be interviewed and see where that tip goes to."
In the same conversation, Matt reflected on the overwhelming number of tips the law enforcements have recieved. Matt Browning claimed that getting such a high number of tips was a good thing. Talking to Arizona's Family, the former police detective, when asked why he feels that the tips will solve the case, he shared
"Because there is somebody out there who knows this person."
The Pima County Sheriff has reported that more than 4,000 tips have been received since the surveillance footage of Nancy Guthrie's door was released. Darren Birch, a retired sergeant for Silent Witness, shared that it takes a lot of things to get it right. The anonymous tip line is used by several valley departments. Darren revealed that behind every call to the tip line is a person who must determine the credibility of that tip. Darren was quoted as saying:
"The FBI is handling this case, and the case agent is on site. They're going to be hand in glove with the tip manager. They're going to provide him with some information. Maybe not all the information, but enough to be able to glean what tip is more valuable than the others."
Pima County officials have urged the public to continue sharing tips via the tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI or 520-351-4900. Darren Birch further shared that every tip that comes in should be reviewed by someone. Both Darren and Matt Browning agree that no call is too small and that anyone with information should contact the tip line immediately.
