According to reports, Claressa Shields' ex-boyfriend, Tony Richardson, is an ISSA-certified fitness trainer. He is also the founder of AT Fitness Gym in Mt. Morris, Michigan. For his education, Richardson attended Bauder College in Atlanta, Georgia, from where he graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in fashion merchandising.
Richardson was first romantically linked to Claressa Shields in November 2020. At the time, the duo was seen together on multiple occasions, but more often at the gym. There, Claressa and Richardson worked out together and sometimes even sparred, with the former sharing her boxing knowledge.
In 2022, Claressa left fans surprised when she addressed Richardson as her fiance in a heartfelt note on Instagram. In the caption, she wrote, “Wow! Things kept going so out of hand that it made the boxer lash out at fans for spreading misinformation. She confirmed that while she was indeed engaged, Claressa denied that there was any wedding. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a video of her kissing Richardson while also flaunting her engagement ring.
The two were also seen celebrating Valentine's Day together. In a tribute that Claressa posted, she mentioned that it was their fourth Valentine's Day together. She wrote, “Happy Valentine's Day @tonyrichfit made today special.” Our 4th Vday together.” Despite their relationship going seemingly well on the outside, things between them did not last long. Claressa also did not keep quiet about the accusations. She fired back and made it clear that she had no intention of being involved in any drama. She said:
“He didn’t come out and say that they were in a relationship for two years. So don’t look at me and say, ‘Oh, you just came and messed up this happy home,’ and stuff like that. Because that’s not what happened. That [relationship] was already over.”
