USA Today has fired NFL reporter, Crissy Froyd following her controversial comments about fellow journalist, Dianna Russini. The statements by the former USA Today reporter came after Dianna's resignation as a The Athletic reporter. For the unversed, Dianna resigned from her role following a massive photo leak that showed her hugging, holding hands and relaxing in a hot tub with New England Patriots coach, Mike Vrabel.

While little is known about her personal background, the NFL reporter began working with USA Today Sports Media Group as a freelance writer in 2015 and served as a staff writer for the outlet between 2017 and 2021. Before joining USA Today, she worked as a staff writer for SB Nation and a Lead Publisher for Mississippi State Coverage at the Fan Nation Network on SI.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Crissy Froyd attended Spring High School, where she was a part of the choir, debate team and student journalism. She thereafter joined Lone Star College, where she studied communication, journalism and related programs. She further enrolled on Louisiana State University, earning a degree in Mass Communication and Journalism.

Talking about Crissy Froyd being fired from her job as a reporter for USA Today, the news started making rounds on Thursday, April 16, 2026 (ET), after the outlet released a statement saying, "USA TODAY Sports has ended its contractor relationship with Crissy Froyd effective immediately. Her recent statements do not reflect our commitment to professionalism or uphold our principles of ethical conduct." Crissy soon after responded to PageSix about her being fired, stating that she doesn't regret what she said and stands by it, as, according to her, it was all true.

Despite the fallout, Crissy Froyd made it clear she has no regrets about her statements. Following USA Today's statement, the former reporter for the outlet also issued a statement expressing her gratitude to USA Today SMG for the opportunity. She acknowledged that it was indeed painful for her, given the circumstances that her contract had come to an end. However, she continues to stand by what she said. The statement could be read as:

"I want to say firstly that I do not regret anything that I said and that I stand behind the fact that it is all indeed true. It is deeply, deeply emotional to me that this relationship has come to an end and that my contract has been terminated because of this. I would never say anything I didn’t stand behind because I know the potential consequences, even if a situation seems risky. Thank you to everyone who has supported me both before and after I released my statements."

For the unversed, the world has been abuzz after the pictures of Dianna Russini and Mark Varabel went viral earlier in April 2026. Many have commented on the pictures, and Crissy was one of them. However, her criticism of the former The Athletic reporter was not taken lightly by USA Today, leading to her being fired. It was on April 14, 2026 (ET), when Crissy posted Dianna's resignation along with a tweet that read:

"I’m sure you were told to submit this or that you’d get fired instead. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. We know who you really are and what you’ve been up to for years. It does so much detriment to women in sports who have done things the right way."

Crissy Froyd went on to criticise Dianna Russini, alleging that there was more to the story than it was being shown. She stated that Dianna's behaviour was the "worst kept secret in the NFL reporting world for a while." She further asserted that she struggled to understand "positioning here after that was published, but that apparently I, as an independent contractor, cannot make my own statements on my own social media accounts." After she was fired, Crissy told TMZ that she was beyond "distraught" about what happened but stood by what she said. She was quoted as saying:
