Derek Richard Thomas is a musician, singer, and producer. He is also the frontman of the indie rock band, The Vista Kicks. Although he has carved a career in music, Derek is best known for his relationship with Rumer Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore.
Rumer began to date Derek in 2022. Her background quickly made them one of the most followed couples in the entertainment industry. In fact, they took a major step forward in their relationship when they welcomed their daughter, Louetta Isley Thomas Willis in 2023. It was a special moment for her Louetta's family as she made Bruce and Demi grandparents for the first time.
Initially, Rumer and Derek enjoyed being a family of three and used to share pictures and videos of their time as new parents on social media. However, the romance eventually dwindled and they confirmed their separation in August 2024. Still Rumer and Derek continued to co-parent Louetta. They mentioned how their daughter was their priority. Yet, the situation changed when the former couple began to have conflicts over their custody and visitation rights.

According to the latest update in Rumer Willis and Derek Thomas' case, the former has filed for an emergency request. She has sought a judge to supervise Derek's visits as their custody case moves ahead. The court documents reveal that she alleged Derek has frequently failed to comply with the court-ordered visitation arrangements.
Rumer also argued that the conflict about court-approved supervising nannies has affected scheduled visits. At the same time, Derek refuses to accept replacement supervisors after their original nanny has been unavailable due to health issues.
The actress-singer also claimed that Derek tried to spend unsupervised time with their daughter, Louetta, without the court-required supervision. She also mentioned that he refused to allow a court-appointed supervisor into his home and did not have a supervising nanny at the Airbnb where he stayed with their daughter.
In turn, it left the supervisor separated from the child at a public event. The accusations also include the claim that Derek has made unsafe decisions for their daughter, like he wanted to cross a busy highway bridge with their daughter and chose to walk in extreme heat rather than rent any transportation. Meanwhile, Derek has denied the claims as the case continues in court.
