Carolyn Murphy spent her childhood in places like the Gulf Coast and Virginia. Notably, her modelling journey started at a very young age. Back in 2021, Carolyn told Fashionista magazine that her grandmother inspired her to join this field. Murphy recalled that her grandmother was also a designer who sewed some outfits and added labels to the same, which read, “Made With Love By Nana.” Carolyn opened up on how she started her career and said:
“I remember sewing Care Bear appliques onto the back pockets of my jeans when I was like 8, because I was obsessed with Care Bears. I had one bear on each pocket. I would style looks. I would go to all-day Saturday skate at the skating rink and have my Gloria Vanderbilt jeans, angora sweaters. I actually became more insecure as a teenager - like most teen girls, of course, who are looking at magazines, but I was super insecure.”
While speaking to Fashionista magazine in 2021, Carolyn Murphy said that she took an eight-week course at school, and multiple agents were present on the occasion. Murphy recalled that a small fashion show was organised during that period, where everyone had to select a look that was a perfect representation of themselves. Carolyn opted for a no makeup look with only a T-shirt and jeans during the day and later changed the outfit to a black dress in the evening.
Carolyn Murphy shifted to Paris for her high school studies. She said that she was attracted to a lot of things in the city, and it took some time for Murphy to adjust. Carolyn stated that she was in her ‘20s when she started her modelling career. She continued by saying:
“I was attending college, commuting between my grandparents’ place in D.C. to New York, paying for school. I started working more, but it did take a couple years. My career didn’t start taking off until ’93, ’94. I had every hair color under the sun in a manner of those two or three years, which was part rebellion but also just really loving the creativity and the artistry in the fashion world.”
Carolyn Murphy has worked with multiple brands throughout her career. She first collaborated with Prada. Apart from that, she has appeared on the covers of publications such as Elle, TIME, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, and more. The 52-year-old has created products like the Lois Tote and has been a design director for Shinola. Outside the modelling industry, Carolyn Murphy has been passionate about matters related to the environment. Back in 2022, Carolyn also explained the concept of sustainability while speaking to Elle magazine and said:
“We live in a world where walking the talk entirely is unrealistic for most, but adapting simple lifestyle choices is a way to start. Buying used - whether it’s cars, clothes, or furniture - is a great starting point of recycling. Reusing items like bags and glass jars. Reducing waste by shopping at farmers markets, composting kitchen scraps, and skipping single-use plastic items.”
Reports of Carolyn Murphy and Will Arnett’s romance first emerged in September 2025. The news arrived after the latter’s separation from Alessandra Brawn. Notably, Carolyn and Will were spotted going out together in London to watch the play, Good Night, Oscar. A month after the outing, the pair appeared for the premiere of Is This Thing On? at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2025.
While speaking to PEOPLE in November 2025, Will said that he and Carolyn met each other through a common friend. Arnett said during the conversation that there was a lot of comfort from the time the duo began going out together. Will also described Carolyn as a “generous-of-spirit person.” The pair did not attend the Academy Awards in March 2026, leading to reports that something was wrong between them. While they have quietly separated, the reasons for the same remain unknown.
