After a long wait of four years, Enola Holmes 3 has finally arrived on Netflix. The first two films built a big fan base, specifically for the lead character, who had the same skills as her brother, ‘Sherlock Holmes.’ The third part has brought a completely new adventure for ‘Enola’ this time, where things take a different turn for ‘Enola’ while she is preparing to tie the knot with ‘Lord Tewkesbury.’

The story has already raised a lot of questions, including the reasons behind ‘Sherlock’s' kidnapping. Keep reading to know what happens in the end.

Kidnapping of ‘Sherlock’ and the reasons behind it

Released on Netflix, Enola Holmes 3 shows that during the Anglo-Afghan Wars, ‘Lord Tewkesbury’s’ regiment looted gold from a place called Khost when the Crown refused to provide any war funds. The plan was to smuggle it through Malta and secretly pay the refund to the army. However, ‘Lord Tewkesbury’ was guilty of everything that happened. He eventually sank the ship and hid the gold in a sea cave by his Maltese estate.

He died with the secret, and years later, the British officials released ‘Moriarty’ from prison to find it. They needed money and didn’t care how they got it. ‘Moriarty’ was well aware of the fact that only a ‘Tewkesbury’ insider could find the cave. When ‘Enola’ got engaged, ‘Moriarty’ nudged Lady ‘Tewkesbury’ to pick Malta for the wedding.

Then she kidnapped ‘Sherlock,’ leaving Khost as a clue. The initial target was ‘Enola’ instead of ‘Sherlock’. But ‘Moriarty’ needed her detective skills and family access to locate the gold. While ‘Enola’ finds the cave, she traps ‘Moriarty’ and frees ‘Sherlock.’ ‘Moriarty’ is taken into custody, exposing the officials who freed her and clearing the Maltese soldiers wrongly accused of theft.

‘Sherlock’s kidnapping and rescue changed a lot of things

While ‘Sherlock’ is saved by ‘Enola,’ she explains the reasons behind her absence. However, it is not true that she did not want to be with ‘Tewkesbury.’ But she had a fear of becoming a viscountess. Malta’s wedding preparations made her feel that she would lose the ‘Holmes’ name, discontinue her work as a detective, and vanish into social duty. She did not want ‘Tewkesbury’ at the cost of herself.

On the wedding day, ‘Enola’ chose ‘Tewkesbury’ and ran towards the church, until she was informed about ‘Sherlock.’ On the other hand, ‘Tewkesbury’ learns the reality of his father, who used to be a hero to him. He realises that titles never make a man good, and his father’s legacy was like a cage. ‘Tewkesbury’ eventually renounces his title, and he is freed from the family crimes. At the same time, ‘Enola’ does not need to be a viscountess anymore. ‘Enola’ and ‘Tewkesbury’ get married in a private ceremony near the sea, which is officiated by ‘Eudoria.’ There are no politics or spectacle, and only a few things matter in this case, which include ‘Enola’s’ name, her work, and the love for each other.

‘Enola’ finds that 'Adeline Rathe,' the spy of ‘Moriarty,’ has been killed. But this is not the end. The final frames reveal a shipwreck of The Wrath of Adeline, clarifying that ‘Adeline’ is the name of the ship that sank with the Khost gold. The name reframes everything and leaves a lot of questions in mind. It seems like the wreck is possibly hinting that the full story is something else, and ‘Moriarty’ was freed to keep the secrets hidden.

Although ‘Moriarty’ is in prison, the corrupt system is not gone yet. The gold has been discovered. But the moral purpose of the same was gone when ‘Lord Tewkesbury’ died. ‘Enola’ is yet to get her traditional victory, and the dark under Malta’s waves is already saying that her next case has started.
