Despite being a woman of few words, Jaya Bachchan speaks at length when it comes to talking about things which are close to her heart. From being a doting mother of Abhishek Bachchan to becoming a loving saasu maa to Aishwarya Rai, Jaya knows how to keep her relationships intact. It was in 2007 when the former Miss World, Aishwarya had become Mrs Bachchan after tying the knot with the man of her dreams, Abhishek.
With bated breath, the entire nation was glued to their TV screens to witness one of the biggest weddings in Bollywood. Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan were the happiest to welcome the gorgeous actress as their bahu. However, before Aishwarya and Abhishek’s marriage, Jaya had once stirred a debate on the internet by saying that she wanted her bahu to shoulder all of her burdens.
In the popular chat show, Koffee With Karan, Jaya Bachchan had made an appearance with her daughter, Shweta Bachchan Nanda in 2007. During the conversation, Karan had learnt that Jaya keeps discussing her problems with Shweta on a daily basis. As Shweta had got married at that time, Karan thought now Jaya would discuss her issues with her then-would-be- bahu, Aishwarya. But, to Karan's surprise, Jaya had said that she would want Aishwarya to shoulder all her family burdens, leaving her daughter, Shweta, in shock. Even Shweta interrupted and asked, “Don’t do that mom. It’s scary and intimidating,” to which Jaya had replied, “What rubbish.” Moreover, Shweta added, “Slowly ease her into it,” while her mom agreed that it's the Bachchan way of life and it's “not hard.”
In the same interaction, Jaya Bachchan had lauded Aishwarya, with many praises. Speaking of her qualities, Jaya mentioned she likes how Aishwarya stays grounded and “behind” everyone in the house. In addition, the doting saasu ma revealed how Amitabh Bachchan’s eyes used to light up seeing Aishwarya walking in as he thinks of her as his own daughter, Shweta Bachchan. Jaya could be quoted as saying:
"She is lovely. I love her. I have always loved her. I have never ever seen her push herself whenever we are all together. I like that quality of hers to stand behind. She is quiet. She listens and she is taking it all in. And another beautiful thing is that she has fitted in so well in the family. She knows who are our good friends."
Abhishek and Aishwarya’s royal wedding was incredibly intimate, and very selective people were invited to the ceremony. In 2010, Abhishek Bachchan had graced the cult show, Koffee With Karan and explained the reason behind his private wedding. Recalling how his ailing grandmother was in the hospital and how it had made them feel upset, the actor had said:
“People are forgetting a major reason why our family wanted to keep it intimate. I had an ailing grandmother in hospital and my father said, ‘You know, we do not feel good about going out there and having a good celebration’. Did I want to invite? Did her family want to invite the whole world? Yes. Our parents, altogether, sent out a card seeking the blessings of everybody.”
We love Jaya Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s bond. They are the best and most supporting saas-bahu duo ever!
