Theirs was the love against all odds! Though it was a common story of a highest-paid actress falling for the producer as they met on the sets, it had its own share of ups and downs due to the latter’s married status. The reigning queen of B-town, Sridevi had fallen for the star producer, Boney Kapoor and while they were at the zenith in their own respective yet similar worlds, a few years after knowing each other they had fallen for each other. It was Sridevi’s song, Kante Nahi Kat-te from the film, Mr India which reportedly played the Cupid for her and Boney.
Boney Kapoor was married to Mona Shourie Kapoor when he had fallen in love with Sridevi and was a proud father of two kids, Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor. Boney had done everything in power to impress Sridevi and had ensured that his heroine felt comfortable on the set. When vanity vans and personal assistants were unheard of, Boney had arranged an exclusive van for Sridevi. Finally, in 1996, Boney and Sridevi had tied the knot. There were a lot of reports in the media back then of how Sridevi had yelled at Boney for meeting his wife and kids, and she was also tagged as a homewrecker.
At the India Today Woman Summit 2013, Boney Kapoor had opened up about the time when he had confessed his love for Sridevi to his first wife, Mona Shourie Kapoor. Boney had said,
“In fact, I had confessed to my ex-wife that I’m in love with her. I couldn’t hold myself back.”
In a throwback interview with the Filmfare, Boney had talked about his obsession with Sridevi and was quoted as saying,
“Basically, Sri’s an introvert. Her job done, she’d keep to herself. But what impressed me was her innocence. She was not corrupted by artifice. Mere dil ko woh gherti chali gayee. My obsession for her only grew each time I met her. She was so simple despite being a superstar.”
It was an unfortunate morning on February 24, 2018, when the nation woke up to the shattering news of Sridevi Kapoor’s demise. Sridevi was indeed the backbone of the Kapoor family, who had shared a warm camaraderie with every member of the clan, and in an emotional note post her demise, Boney Kapoor had expressed that their lives will never be the same again. An excerpt of which could be read as
"To the world, she was their Chandni... the actor par excellence... their Sridevi... but to me, she was my love, my friend, mother to our girls... my partner. To our daughters, she was their everything... their life. She was the axis around which our family ran. She was our life, our strength and the reason we always smiled. We love her beyond measure. Rest in peace my love. Our lives will never be the same again.”
While the festivals are about the family coming together, it also is a time for traditions and rituals. Some family rituals that we incorporate into our lives help us gather lifetime memories that we cherish forever. In 2018, a picture of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor’s special Diwali ritual had gone viral on social media, wherein the latter could be seen feeding a customary dish of paneer to his wife. This picture was taken in 2008 and ten years later, Boney had recreated the same with his daughter, Janhvi Kapoor. On Diwali 2018, Khushi Kapoor had clicked a picture of Boney feeding Janhvi at the dining table of their house, reminding us of the photograph of Boney and Sridevi. This picture had reflected the void of late Sridevi and had made our eyes moist!
The demise of Sridevi Kapoor had marked as a new beginning for a relationship between Arjun Kapoor and Anshula Kapoor, who earlier did not share cordial terms with their father’s second family and half-sisters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor. Since February 2018, the elder siblings have been showering their baby sisters with immense love and their inseparable bonding knows no bounds! Speaking about the bond between Arjun, Anshula, Janhvi and Khushi, Boney had once said in an interview with SpotboyE,
“As I said, I am blessed to have these four. They love each other a lot and I am glad that they have come together. It was due to happen anytime, it just happened when something unfortunate happened. They are all my blood and they had to come around. I give credit to all four, but yes, more to Arjun because he is the eldest. He flew into Dubai to be with me. Anshula was in Mumbai with Janhvi and Khushi. They have happened through two different mothers but why should they get affected? They need their father now, and I am going to be around them.”
Despite all the odds in their relationship, Boney and Sridevi became an epitome of love!
