Love knows no boundaries and when you are in love, everything else seems meaningless. It is just you and your partner in your own bubble. A lot of time you feel that finding the right partner is all that you need and when you finally get your Mr Right, everything else falls into place. It is true that one can conquer the whole world when in love. It is true that you can fight any battle if you know that your partner is right beside you. When you realise that the person you love is standing like a pillar, you go to any extent to prove your love.
This is exactly what happened with televisions’ favourite stars, Tanaaz Irani and Bakhtiyaar Irani. Age which generally plays a major hindrance in any couple’s love life, was just a number for these two, who just completed 12 years of their marriage. The couple believed that age was never a matter of concern and it was sheer love because of which they sustained 12 years of pure marital bliss. It was never an easy ride for the lovely couple who was always in news because of their rumoured fallouts and fights. However, both Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar have always denied those rumours and have sailed and survived through them. Let’s go through the details of their cute love story.
Born as an Indian Parsi, Tanaaz Lal was extremely young when she married well-known stage artist Farid Currim. They were auditioning for a play which never happened. Despite their 18-year age gap, they tied the knot. The Zaban Sambhal Ke actress was even abandoned from her community for marrying somebody who was not from the same community. She became a mother to Zianne at the age of 20.
However, the marriage didn’t last long. Due to the age difference and busy careers, they grew apart. Her daughter Zianne lives with Farid now. In a 2003 interview with TOI, she had shared her concern about being abandoned from her own community because she married a Muslim. Talking about the same, she had said:
"I would love to bring up my daughter, Zianne, as a Parsi, but that's not possible. And, that's purely because I was excommunicated when I married outside.”
After her divorce with Farid, Tanaaz dated a pilot working with a National airline for a while but later realised that it was not going to work out.
After her divorce with Farid Currim, Tanaaz started working in television which got her immense popularity. That was where she met Bakhtiyaar. They met on the sets of Fame Gurukul in 2006 and fell in love instantly. They became friends on the show and later realised that there was more to it. During her courtship period, when asked about her marriage plans to Bakhtiyaar, she had responded:
"We are extremely focussed about our relationship, and do plan to marry by the year-end. I don't want people to just say anything now. We are serious about each other. I admit he is younger than me and I am divorced (she was married to Farid Currim), with a 13-year-old daughter. But that does not mean I can't live life again. Even I have a reason to be happy."
Bakhtiyaar’s family was against the marriage initially due to the 8-year age gap between the two. It was Bakhtiyaar’s sister, television actress Delnaaz Irani who convinced Bakhtiyaar’s family. Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar married in 2007. The couple have a son named Zeus and a daughter named Zara.
Tanaaz, who always praised Bakhtiyaar for being patient in the relationship has also said that Bakhtiyaar had managed the family really well. According to Tanaaz, trust is the foundation of any marriage. She believes that if there is trust in a relationship, everything else will fall into place. She also believes that marriage is not about two individuals, it is about two families as well. Talking about her marriage to Bakhtiyaar, Tanaaz had said:
“I think marriage is about the coming together of the two families. Both have to accept the good and bad in each other. Sometimes you have to show appreciation, at others, make some compromises. I think remembering family member’s birthdays, calling up relatives once in a while goes a long way in forming strong ties.”
Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar, who got married in 2007 in a Parsi-style wedding, which was attended by their industry friends. The couple was blessed with a son named Zeus in 2008 and a daughter named Zara in 2011. Tanaaz says that she has taught her kids to be respectful to everybody. She also makes sure that her kids understand the value of family and the importance of staying together.
Tanaaz, who has been married to Bakhtiyaar for 12 years says that the couple doesn’t really feel the urge to keep their marriage fresh. Tanaaz further elaborated and said that they never had a boring day in their life due to which a need to refresh their marriage is just out of question. In one of the interviews, Tanaaz had opened up on her thoughts on marriage and had said:
“My current marriage is one of the most dynamic and completely volatile, full-of-life relationships I have ever had. We ask a lot of questions of each other before making any decisions. This marriage has brought a very positive change in my life. Earlier, I was very tough. Now I am emotional and very family-oriented.”
While expecting her second child, Tanaaz, in an interview with The Times of India, had expressed her thoughts on motherhood and had said:
“For the time being, my family is my sole focus. I am expecting and can’t wait to become a mother again later this year! So, work can wait in 2011. Becoming a mother is a feeling that nothing can match. Next year, I plan to start shooting for a few films.”
Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar have time and again proved themselves with their set of work. Tanaaz who was noted for her role of a young Anglo-Indian girl in Zabaan Sambhal Ke later became a household name with her roles in Swabhimaan, Ye Meri Life Hai and Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil. Bakhtiyaar on the other side has done quite a few reality shows like Zara Nachke Dikha, Zor Ka Jhatka: Total Wipeout, Maa Exchange etc. Apart from these, he was also seen in quite a few dance reality shows broadcasted on Doordarshan. In the year 2008, Bakhtiyaar appeared in the movie Karzzzz starring Himesh Reshammiya and Urmila Matondkar. He also made a guest appearance in Bigg Boss 6.

In 2014, Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar were highly praised for their role of a Christian couple in sab tv’s serial, Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai where Tanaaz played the role of Lisa D’Souza and Bakhtiyaar played the role of Ronnie D’Souza.
There have been quite a few reports in the past stating about the couple’s marriage hitting rocks. The reason stated was either Bakhtiyar’s alleged closeness to a female co-star or the actor’s display of a bad temper suspecting his wife’s linkups to her male co-stars. Rumour has it that he even slapped his wife publicly.
However, both Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar have always denied these rumours and stood by each other, putting the gossip mills at rest. The rumour mills buzzed again about a possible separation after Tanaaz got eliminated from Bigg Boss 3. But Tanaaz gave a befitting reply that their marriage is too strong to be affected by strangers. When asked about trust in a relationship, Tanaaz had once said:
“Come what may, trust between the couple is of utmost importance, especially if both parties work long hours. I think this is most crucial to ensure stability in the marriage and both have to strive to live up to it.”
Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar who have celebrated their 12th anniversary recently believe that love should be the most important factor in any married couple’s life and everything else will fall into place if there is love. According to Tanaaz:
“Love surpasses all differences. Even if there are things that I don’t like doing, I do them just for my husband. For instance, if Bakhtiyaar wants me to go with him to a party and I am irritated because I don’t want to go, I’ll still end up going because it means a lot to him.”
According to Bakhtiyaar, trust comes later. The foundation of any successful relationship is love. According to him, love is all that matters. He feels that love is the foundation of any relationship and if the foundation is not strong, there could be cracks later. For him, trust is secondary and comes with the passage of time. In one of the interviews, he had remarked, “Marry the women who loves you, not the women you love.”
He considers himself lucky to have Tanaaz in his life. On August 27, 2019, when Tanaaz completed 31 years in the industry, Bakhtiyaar took to his Instagram handle to share a heartfelt note for his lovely wife praising her tremendous body of work all these years.
Recently, the much-loved couple got themselves inked. Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar who were holidaying in Phuket on their anniversary took to their respective Instagram handles to share some very beautiful pictures. Tanaaz got Bakhtiyaar’s name inked on her arm, on the other side, Bakhtiyaar tattooed Tanaaz’s entire face on his back. Now isn’t that cute?
After Bakhtiyaar shared the image on his Instagram handle, Tanaaz, who was blown away with his lovely gesture shared her happiness with a heartfelt message which read:
“This is how it all started... Many more videos and pics to come... Stay tuned... Excited to show the final result... My tattoo... Thanks @celebrityinktattoophuket This tattoo was a complete surprise for me! My portrait on his back! Unimaginable from a man who is even scared to go for a blood test as he's scared of needles! @bhakhtyar you sat for 7 hours in pain! I salute you and your totally Bepanaah love you have for me and the kids. Very few can understand your passion and love as your a very rare breed. Your ways are alien but there's no man I would rather sacrifice for and share my life with than you! There's obviously something that keeps me with you through all of lives' ups and downs! Blessed! love you @celebrityinktattoophuket thanks for doing such a fab job and inking me into ageless eternity.”
When asked about what is the one thing, she likes the most about Bakhtiyaar, she said that he is extremely passionate about everything in life and is a complete family man devoted to his wife and kids. Both Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar are very much bound to their families. For them, their family matters the most and everything else takes a second place. Talking about her family, Tanaaz had said:
“I love children and I think the joy of bringing them up together as good human beings is a fulfilling experience for a couple. They add a little madness to the couple’s life and make it more interesting.”
One thing the couple strongly feels is that there should be mutual respect in a relationship. The existence of any relationship becomes difficult if there is no respect. Even during a fight, one has to be really careful about what to say and whatnot. According to them, fights are a very normal thing in any relationship, but what is important is that there has to be a decorum to the fights. After all, your words should not hurt your partner.
So, this was the love story of Tanaaz and Bakhtiyaar who love spending time with each other. For them, relationships never fade away if it is based on the foundation of pure love and trust. Their love knows no boundaries and has surely surpassed all the norms of a cliched wedding. We wish the gorgeous couple a lifetime of happiness.
