Perez Hilton's Sister Shares Harrowing Account Of His Suicide Attempt, 'He Was Covered In Blood'

The gossip blogger was found bloodied and covered in cuts all over his naked body on August 4, 2026, when authorities reported to his Miami residence. Hilton's mental health crisis took a devastating turn, and that too, while his three minor children were present inside the house.

In a new interview with Page Six, Lavandeira described August 4 as "one of the darkest days" her family has ever experienced. Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., had livestreamed acts of self-harm on TikTok before being taken to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Lavandaira, who was visiting from California, became concerned after noticing that Hilton had locked his bedroom door, something she said was highly unusual for him as "his door was almost always open." She told the publication:
"When I knocked, he said he was fine, but I could barely hear him. After I knocked a few more times and asked him to open the door, he stopped responding. I tried calling his cellphone in case he couldn’t hear me, but he wouldn’t answer. Something just felt wrong."
Recalling how she saw her nightmare unfold, Lavanderia said, "I unlocked his bedroom door and realized he was inside the bathroom. I knocked several more times and told him I was going to come in if he didn’t open the door. He still didn’t answer, so I unlocked it."
When she finally opened the door, she was confronted with a scene she described as a nightmare, and it left her shaken. She shared :
"Mario was standing in front of the shower, naked, cut up, covered in blood, with a box cutter in his hand... What I can say with certainty is that I didn’t recognize my brother when I looked at him. I saw it in his eyes. They didn’t look the same. Then, a split second later, he smiled at me. It felt like I was staring at someone else."
Hilton's children were present inside the house
After that initial shock of seeing her brother in such horrendous condition, Lavandeira's immediate priority was getting Hilton's three children out of the house so that they didn't have to witness this nightmare.
She grabbed her car keys and told Hilton's kids, including Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, to run to the car. Their grandmother wasn't home at that time. Once they were safely away from the scene, she called 911 and contacted a nearby friend to "please come get the kids and take them away from the scene."
The children are now being cared for by family as Hilton remains hospitalized. His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has also filed for temporary custody, with Hilton reportedly consenting to the arrangement.
Lavandeira was the first and only witness to the incident. She said that much more happened during the hours that followed, but chose not to share every detail, as some of what she witnessed was "too painful, graphic and overwhelming."
After initially leaving the house with the children, Lavandeira eventually returned while waiting for an ambulance and helped Hilton until medical assistance arrived. She then stayed behind to speak with a crisis team. She explained that she decided to speak publicly because of the amount of misinformation circulating about her brother. "I can only share what I personally witnessed and experienced," she said, adding that she wanted people to hear from someone who was actually there.
The incident came during a difficult period for Hilton, who was recovering from serious health issues. His sister Lavandeira said he voluntarily sought psychiatric treatment about two weeks earlier, telling family he felt "empty, hopeless, and like a burden." He had also returned to therapy and was preparing for an intensive outpatient program.
Hilton remains hospitalized and currently has no access to social media or the internet while his family and doctors focus on his treatment.
