Even though sons are the extension of their fathers, their relationship is a complex one. A relationship that begins with love and eventually the complexities barge in. As a boy grows up, there will be many people who would influence him and develop him into adulthood, but the most important role will be played by his father in making his son what he is. But as his little boy steps into adulthood and gets busy with his life, the father misses nothing but the quality time with him. Pankaj Kapur’s first wife, Neliima Azeem and second wife, Supriya Pathak along with their children, Shahid Kapoor, Sanah Kapur, Ruhaan Kapur, Ishaan Khatter are a perfect example of a modern family, who are on cordial terms with each other. Despite the separation of parents, Pankaj and Neliima and their respective second marriages with Supriya and Rajesh Khatter, Shahid being the eldest child had handled the situation quite maturely. But Shahid’s relationship with his father, Pankaj has not always been a pleasant one.
In a 2015 Hindustan Times interview, Pankaj Kapur and Shahid Kapoor had revisited their evolving relationship, and the latter had revealed that even though he was a toddler when his parents had separated, he was never an insecure child. Shahid had stated, “My parents separated when I was three, but I was extremely secure as a child. It has a lot to do with the kind of effort dad and I made to keep it [our relationship] healthy, normal and positive. You know, sometimes, he says that he wants to shift out of town and lead a chilled-out life, maybe five or 10 years down the line. I don’t like that. He is a big part of my life.”
Recalling when Shahid Kapoor had assisted him for a while after he had turned 18 and how that helped revive their relationship, Pankaj Kapur had continued, “As Shahid said, it is very difficult to explain. For a father, to separate from his son is not easy. It was a huge emotional loss for me [the last time around] and I started living with the hope that there will come a time when we will come close to each other again. And today, it’s a great feeling to sit next to him, see his work or hear him speak and bond with the family. Definitely, yes. I missed him every day, but there were professional constraints. What’s most fortunate is that once he turned 18, Shahid assisted me for a while, so we got to spend a lot of time with each other. Then, we started going for holidays together with the family, so the bonding increased, especially after we shifted to our new house.” (Also Read: Mira Rajput Kapoor Trolls Hubby, Shahid Kapoor, Takes Credit For Making Daughter, Misha Kapoor Sassy)
