The triple murder case involving former Massachusetts nurse Lindsay Clancy has not only been one of the most closely watched criminal trials, but also one of the saddest ones at that. The latest development comes days after a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial in Clancy's high-profile case after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict over whether she was criminally responsible for the deaths of her three children.

Clancy was charged with three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the January 2023 deaths of her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months old. Her attorney, Kevin Reddington, has maintained that Clancy was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis at the time and was not criminally responsible for the killings.

Lindsay Clancy's lawyer rejects Patrick Clancy's 'conspiracy to kill' theories

The veteran lawyer has maintained from day one that Lindsay Clancy indeed killed her kids, while arguing that she wasn't in her right state of mind. However, Reddington has been equally firm in rejecting online theories that Patrick Clancy was secretly involved in the deaths or helped orchestrate a conspiracy against his own children.

Reddington has been equally firm in rejecting online theories that Patrick Clancy was secretly involved in the deaths or helped orchestrate a conspiracy against his own children. In a recent interview, he urged people to stop speculating about Patrick's role, saying the allegations have unfairly turned his life into a "nightmare." Speaking with NBC News and CBS, he strongly rejected the online theories. He said:

"Stop with the speculation and horrific conspiracy allegations that he was involved with some massive conspiracy to kill his children. It's horrific what this man has been going through, and he's entitled to move on with his life."

The veteran defense attorney argued that Patrick has already endured unimaginable loss and should not have to deal with additional accusations from online sleuths. Reddington described the situation as a nightmare Patrick does not deserve. He said:

"Patrick was a man who stood by his wife through all of this difficulty, of the medical issues, the psychiatric issues, the pharmaceutical issues... And the fact that he's moved on with his life and still is standing by Lindsay, as far as the legal issues go, tells the tale."

What has Lindsay said about the online theories against Patrick? Reddington says she is on a 24/7 suicide watch

Reddington has also mentioned that Lindsay herself is aware of the claims making rounds online about her former husband. Sharing her reaction to the situation, the 75-year-old lawyer said, "She knows, and it’s readily apparent, that Patrick has been set upon and his life has been turned upside down into a nightmare that he doesn’t deserve."

Reddington pointed to Patrick’s emergency call following the discovery of the children as evidence that should contradict the online theories. "Listen to the 911 call," Reddington said during his CBS interview, adding that the "gut-wrenching" pain in his voice could not be dismissed as fake. He believes "no actor in California could ever imitate that."

Lindsay Clancy allegedly strangled her three children with exercise bands at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, on January 24, 2023. Afterwards, she attempted to take her own life and jumped from a second-story window, an act that left her paralyzed. Her defense says she was not to be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from postpartum depression and psychosis at the time.

The trial ended on September 4, 2026, after jurors remained deadlocked despite extensive deliberations. The 12-person jury deliberated for approximately 38 hours over seven days before Judge William Sullivan declared a mistrial. Reddington says he now plans to seek dismissal of the case. He intends to file a motion to dismiss on double jeopardy grounds at a September 29, 2026 hearing.

While the legal battle continues, Reddington said Clancy remains in severe emotional distress. He described his client as suicidal and said she is under constant, one-on-one monitoring. In his words:

"She’s strong. She has incredible family support. But she is suicidal. I mean, she’s on 24/7, one-on-one suicide watch. I worry about her every day."

Reddington said Clancy has not expressed anger toward prosecutors, jurors, or witnesses who testified against her. Instead, he said she repeatedly talks about her children and frequently says, "I want my babies."
