While Lindsay Clancy’s trial came to an end after six long weeks, the attention on the case remains as high as ever. For those unaware, Judge William Sullivan recently declared a mistrial after the jury remained deadlocked despite deliberating for over 38 hours. The question that continues to linger on everyone's minds is whether Lindsay should be held criminally responsible for killing her three children.

Amid this, Lindsay's attorney, Kevin Reddington, is speaking out. He revealed the reason why he was so upset with the juror who kept the jury from reaching a unanimous verdict.

Kevin Reddington reveals the reason behind his frustration with the holdout juror

Jurors in Plymouth State Court failed to reach a unanimous verdict on the last day of the trial after deliberating over the course of 7 days and 38 hours. They had failed to reach a unanimous decision twice before this. A note that was sent by the jury and read out by Judge Sullivan stated:

“It is with a heavy heart that we report we are unable to come to a unanimous decision and will not be able to.”

It was reported that the jury was split 11-1 before Judge Sullivan declared a mistrial on September 4, 2026. While the majority was in favor of Lindsay's acquittal, it was just one juror who held out against the rest. The fact that the jury was split initially came to light after the jury foreperson sent a note claiming that a lone juror had “made statements acknowledging doubt but refused to apply it to the verdict as the law states.”

During his appearance on Good Morning America on September 8, 2026, Lindsay's attorney, Kevin Reddington, explained the reason why he found the situation with the holdout juror frustrating.

According to Reddington, he was upset that even after the lengthy trial and the amount of work everyone put into the case, it was just because of that one juror that a unanimous decision could not be reached. It was also frustrating because the jurors had almost spent two months away from their homes and families, but the lone juror refused to apply the law of reasonable doubt. He said:

“What I was upset about was after that lengthy trial and the work that everyone put into this case, including these jurors that spent literally almost two months away from their home, their job, their family, where a gentleman had an opinion ... but that according to the note from the forelady that he had doubt but he would not apply the law of reasonable doubt as presented by the judge.”

Reddington further said that it was “not right,” and that's why he was so upset. However, he clarified that he respected the juror’s right to hold out. In his words:

“That’s part of our judicial system, and I respect that. And I would certainly defend his right to do that.”

During the last day of the trial, when Reddington realized that 11 out of the 12 jurors had voted to acquit Lindsay, he asked the judge to remove the holdout juror from the jury. However, Judge Sullivan declined his request. Later, while speaking with the media, Reddington slammed the juror by saying that he had “robbed” Lindsay. He stated:

“They know they were robbed by one man, for whatever his agenda was, who stole seven weeks of the life of these other jurors that were so attentive, so beautiful, so wonderful.”

More about Lindsay Clancy’s trial

It was in January 2023 that Lindsay Clancy was charged with killing her three young children in her home. According to the prosecution, Lindsay, who is a former nurse, “coldly and efficiently” executed her kids. On the other hand, the defense said that Lindsay was “suffering from psychosis." Lindsay has not denied killing her children, and her guilty plea was predicated on a lack of criminal responsibility.
