Justin Fairfax Struggled With Alcohol Abuse, Would Hide In Office, Used Children's Money To Buy Guns

The former deputy governor of Virginia, Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina, were found dead at their home on April 16, 2026, which the authorities believe to be a murder-suicide case. As per the reports. Justin Fairfax shot multiple rounds at his wife, Cerina, before turning the gun on himself and taking his own life. The couple got married in 2006, and they welcomed two kids. 

Reportedly, the duo's teenage children were at their home when the incident involving the deaths of Justin and Cerina took place in the same place, and they are currently under their grandparents' care. Justin and Cerina filed for divorce last year in July, and despite the same, they were staying in the same house and separate rooms. Amid this shocking incident, the court documents surfaced that hold a series of allegations against Justin.

Justin Fairfax struggled with alcohol abuse and used their kids' money to buy guns

The information from the document was recently shared by The New York Post. As per a report from the NY Post, the legal filing of the divorce proceedings shows Justin as a 'raging drunk'. As per the documents, Justin started behaving erratically before Cerina filed for divorce back in 2025. In the document, Cerina claimed that her husband, Justin chose not to be a productive member of their family and the term 'deadbeat' would apply to him, aptly.

It was also stated that Fairfax was struggling with alcohol so much that he would hide in his family office, surrounded by empty wine bottles and trash, and would only come out to smoke or have food. As per the documents, in 2022, Fairfax used the money meant for their kids' horseback riding expenses to buy firearms, and eventually refused to pay for the household expenses, which made the family's mortgage difficult. The judge tied to the case asked Fairfax to vacate the family home by April 30, 2026; however, the former deputy governor of Virginia killed himself and his wife before the deadline.

Justin Fairfax's deteriorating mental health 

As per the document, in 2019, Justin Fairfax was accused of sexual assault by several women, and his mental health started to deteriorate. Back then, Justin was the Lieutenant Governor of Virginia and was an ascendant political figure who was eyeing a run for Governor, and with the allegations that reached him, he couldn't fulfil his professional plans.

It was mentioned in the documents that the things he had been doing, like isolating, drinking and not participating in the family life, were the result of unprocessed trauma, heaped up as fatalism and hopelessness. Justin didn't want to look deeply into the root cause and presented plans to be self-aware about the fact that his behaviour was impactful on others associated with him, as per the documents. The document claimed that Justin was suffering because of undefined emotional and psychological issues.
