Justin Fairfax and Cerina Fairfax were married for 19 years before they filed for divorce in July 2025. Despite it, the estranged couple were staying together.
Justin Fairfax, a famous lawyer and former Virginia Lieutenant Governor, killed his wife, Cerina Fairfax, on the night of April 15, 2026. After shooting her, he died by suicide and used the same gun. While both Justin and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, have been found dead, their two children are going through the worst time and are under their grandparents' care.
As per reports, Justin Fairfax and his wife, Cerina Fairfax, were heading for a divorce and filed the divorce papers in July 2025. Despite parting ways, the estranged couple were staying in the same home with their two kids.
Justin Fairfax and Cerina Fairfax have been together for over 19 years. Cerina was a dentist and was also a mother of two teenage kids, a son and a daughter. Cerina was running her own dental clinic in Virginia. Her website bio clearly mentions that it was an honour and a privilege to serve the community of Fairfax, Virginia. She was committed to serving not just her patients but many through her outreach programs, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, and contributions to local charities to aid individuals and organisations in need.
Justin and Cerina met each other while they were studying at Duke University. Justin Fairfax and Cerina Fairfax tied the knot on June 17, 2006. On the 11th anniversary, Justin penned a heartfelt note for his wife, Cerina, on Facebook. The post was dated from June 2017. He had expressed his love for her and recalled how they had a beautiful outdoor wedding, followed by a reception on an extremely hot day. He wrote:
"Happy 11th Wedding Anniversary to the love of my life, Dr. Cerina W. Fairfax, DDS. God has brought us a mighty long way, and we are deeply grateful and tremendously blessed. We got married on June 17, 2006, in #Arlington, VA, outdoors at the Netherlands Carillon Gardens. We held the reception at Top of the Town. It was a blazing hot, but truly perfect day!"
After 19 years of marriage and two kids later, Justin and Cerina chose to end their marriage. They filed for divorce in July 2025, but the divorce wasn't finalised. Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis revealed that the family was dealing with a tough time due to the divorce. Not only the couple, but the fight and impact of divorce were on the children as well, who had been through the worst time of their lives.
As per a Virginia police officer, Justin Fairfax called 911 and reported a domestic violence fight with his wife. The former politician went on to reveal that Cerina had physically assaulted him at their home. For the unversed, despite filing for divorce, Justin and Cerina were staying together in the same home with their children. But the couple was sharing different bedrooms. The police chief, Kevind Davis, revealed that they reviewed the cameras and they found out that Justin had lied about his wife assaulting him, as it never happened. They added that there was a written complaint, but no arrest was made, and it turned out that Cerina never assaulted Justin. He was quoted as saying:
"We reviewed the cameras [in the home] and we corroborated that the alleged assault never occurred. There was no arrest made, there was a report written, but the allegation that Mr. Fairfax made in January that Mrs. Fairfax assaulted him was proven to be untrue."
As per the police, Justin Fairfax shot his wife, Cerina, inside their home, and later he killed himself. It is also stated that the couple's two teenage kids were inside the home when the shootings occurred. Plus, Justin and Cerina's son was the one who called 911. On arrival, the police found a man and a woman dead. The police found the same firearm to be used in both the shootings.
As per the reason for the shooting, it stemmed from a marital dispute. Reportedly, the two were planning to divorce, and it was a messy one. Justin Fairfax had received a paper which indicated when he was next scheduled to appear in court for the divorce proceedings.
Currently, Justin and Cerina's children are with their grandparents, and other family members are supporting them in these testing times. Fairfax County Police Department's victim services are also supporting them. Davis shared that half of Americans go through divorce, but things should not end up like this. He said:
"Half of America probably goes through divorce proceedings at some point in time and very, very rarely, thankfully, does it ever end up like this. So, very sad for this community … a lot of people who know the Fairfax family — everybody’s shocked. We’re shocked."
