Legendary golfer Tiger Woods reached a plea deal on September 2, 2026, in connection with the DUI charges that he faced, following a car crash in Florida in March 2026. The DUI hearing took place in Florida on Wednesday, and it was his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, who was spotted supporting him. Woods was arrested earlier this year for driving under the influence and refusing to undergo a drug test.

Following this, he took a break and was receiving treatment in Switzerland. However, on September 2, 2026, in a Martin County courtroom, Woods pleaded no contest to a reduced charge of reckless driving and refusal of a lawful test. Reportedly, he was fined USD 1.5K and agreed to have his driver's license suspended for five years. Amid this, Donald Trump, who is Vanessa Trump's ex-father-in-law and Woods' long-time friend, reacted to the plea deal and also revealed that he had asked Woods to hire a driver.

President was asked by a reporter about Tiger Woods' plea deal in the Oval Office on September 2, 2026. In response, Donald Trump said that Tiger Woods is a 'great guy' who is unique in many ways, especially as an athlete and as a man.

Donald Trump further mentioned that Woods is in great pain, while also stating that it's tough given that the golfer wasn't tested positive for alcohol. Tiger Woods' long-time friend and President further talked about the back pain that the former is navigating and also spoke about the tough situation of being on painkillers. President Donald Trump could be quoted as saying:

"He suffers great pain. It’s a very tough situation because they didn’t find alcohol on him; he didn’t test positive at all for alcohol. Because of his horrible back, in my opinion, a bad doctor, but he had a back operation that did not work out well. It’s a tough deal when you’re taking a painkiller because you’re in pain…I thought it was very fair.”

President Donald Trump's comments came after Tiger Woods' appearance in the Martin County courtroom, where he changed his plea from not guilty to no contest on reduced charges. Donald Trump also mentioned that it could be possible that Woods will hire a driver, something that the President suggested to his friend a long time ago. To quote the president:

“I think he’s gonna have somebody drive him. I told him that a long time… Why don’t you get somebody to drive you, so he’s gonna have somebody drive him from now on.”

Donald Trump reacted during the time Tiger Woods was arrested following the car crash in March

March 2026 was not the first time that Tiger Woods was charged with reckless driving; it was in 2017 as well, when something similar happened. Speaking of the incident from March 2026, it took place on Jupiter Island. Back then, reports claimed that Woods was speeding in his SUV while trying to overtake a pickup truck and eventually struck the back of the vehicle, causing his car to roll over.

He also refused to go under the test, which could determine whether he was under the influence. Back then as well, Donald Trump was questioned by Miami reporters about his friend's highly publicized accident. The US President mentioned that he was aware of the fact that there was an accident in which his friend was involved. He praised the golfer by calling him an amazing human being, while adding that there are some 'difficulties'.

While Tiger Woods is a longtime friend of Donald Trump, they are also connected through Vanessa Trump. Tiger has been with Vanessa for almost two years. Vanessa Trump is the President's former daughter-in-law. She got married to Donald Trump Jr. in 2005, and they have five kids. It was in 2018 that Vanessa and Donald Trump Jr. called it quits and opted for divorce. Notably, Donald Trump Jr. is now married to Bettina Trump, a socialite and model.
