The Opry told the outlet that the weekend show will honor Dolly's life, legacy, and her immeasurable contribution to country music.
The Grand Ole Opry revealed that Carly Pearce will be among the artists scheduled to take the stage for the tribute night. For the unversed, Carly's involvement makes the show even more meaningful as she got her start performing at Dollywood, and Dolly herself surprised Carly in 2021 with an invitation to become an official Grand Ole Opry member.
It was on Tuesday night, August 25, 2026, that The Grand Ole Opry show opened with member Rhonda Vincent telling the crowd, "This is for Dolly," before performing Dolly's classic Coat of Many Colors. Rhonda later returned to perform 9 to 5 and Jolene, while Morgan Myles honored Dolly with I Will Always Love You. The Opry will also be keeping Dolly's name front and center outside the venue.

The singer was admitted to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville on August 21, 2026. Four days later, she passed away.
Later, a post was made on her Instagram account, announcing her death to the world. The post called Dolly a "rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see". It further alleged that Dolly will always stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also through her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. The post added:
"Global icon and humanitarian Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author, died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old...At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton."
