And if we talk about our B-town celebrities’ ‘home sweet home’, then without any second thought we can say that it reflects royalty with which they live their life, king size!
Even if you have been living under the rocks, you would know about the Sunday ritual that takes place outside Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s Mumbai home, Jalsa. Every evening, the gates of Jalsa are flung open so the throng of people baking in the sun for hours can catch a glimpse of Senior Bachchan. For more than three decades, Amitabh Bachchan has been greeting his fans from all over the world, standing on the makeshift podium at the gate of Jalsa.
The power couple, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan live with their family, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Aaradhya Bachchan in this massive bungalow. You may already have had a look at the family home from the outside, and if you’re lucky enough then you might have got a real-life glimpse of Jalsa, but we will now take you on an inside tour and give you a glimpse of the interiors of the Bachchan home.
To begin with, let us share an unknown fact about Jalsa that how it became the Bachchan’s residence. An iconic director, Ramesh Sippy had gifted Jalsa to Amitabh Bachchan as a present for acting in his movie, Satte Pe Satta. Big B’s first house that he had bought, Prateeksha, is located just 1 Km away from Jalsa and it holds a special place in his heart. The front porch of Jalsa features a verdant garden with many potted plants, which bring a lush vibe to the entrance of their home.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s luxurious residence, Jalsa is worth between Rs 100 and 120 crore. Jalsa is adorned with mirrored shelves, floor-to-ceiling windows, glass chandeliers, plush rugs, baroque pieces, spectacular paintings inspired by royal heritage and high traditional arches. Good use of earthy and warm tones with wood glamourises the house. One wall in Jalsa is dedicated to the family pictures of the Bachchan clan from different phases of their lives.

Post her successful career in Bollywood, Jaya Bachchan had decided to step into politics and in 2004, she was elected from Samajwadi Party as the Member of Parliament and she had completed her third term as the MP, representing Rajya Sabha. In 2018, Jaya Bachchan had submitted an affidavit at the time of filing for nomination for her fourth term and according to that document, she had claimed to own assets worth Rs 1,000 crore jointly with her husband, Amitabh Bachchan.
According to the reports published in The Times Of India, an affidavit submitted by Jaya Bachchan had stated that the couple owns immovable assets worth more than Rs 460 crore. Besides this, they jointly own jewellery worth Rs 62 crore. The movable assets owned by them are close to Rs 540 crore. And if this wasn’t enough, the star couple also owns 12 vehicles which include three Mercedes, one Rolls Royce, one Porsche and one Range Rover. Besides these luxury cars, they also own a Tata Nano and a tractor.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan not only own properties in various parts of India but also a 3175 sq m residential property in Brignogan Plage, France. Jaya also owns a 1.22-hectare agricultural plot worth Rs 2.2 crore in Kakori area of Lucknow. Not only her, but Big B also owns a 3-acre plot worth Rs 5.7 crore in Daulatpur area of Barabanki district. Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan also own expensive watches and pens worth Rs 4 crore. Amitabh owns a pen that costs somewhere near Rs 9 lakh. The actress-turned-politician had claimed assets worth Rs 500 crore in 2012 and in 2018, the amount had doubled.
Another special memory that is significant with Jalsa is Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan’s son, Abhishek Bachchan’s wedding with former Miss World, Aishwarya Rai. It was on April 20, 2007, when Abhishek and Aishwarya had tied the knot in Prateeksha, but his baraat flagged off from Jalsa. Ghode Pe Chadh Ke, Chala Hai Baanka, Apni Dulhan Se Milne moment finally came into Abhishek’s life as he headed towards Prateeksha with family and friends dancing in his baraat to bring his bride home.
