From celebrating festivals, birthdays together to taking out time from their hectic schedules to go on family vacations, there has always been an admiration and love for the Bachchan parivaar in the hearts of their fans. Giving major family goals, Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan have also redefined the bond between a father-in-law and daughter-in-law. While we were eagerly waiting to see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan on the silver screen, the news of them opting out of the film came out. But the good news is that Aishwarya will be now seen sharing the screen space with her father-in-law, Amitabh Bachchan after 11 years. In 2008, Aishwarya and Amitabh worked together in Ram Gopal Varma's film, Sarkar Raj and now the reports are that they will be a part of a big-budget film by Mani Ratnam.
According to DNA reports, a source had stated, "It's a big-budget historical drama, which is being planned on the lines of the Baahubali franchise. It's likely to be a bilingual project and star several other big names from the South Indian film industry. Mani approached his muse Aishwarya for the female lead and she signed on the dotted line."
The untitled project will be based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's popular historical novel Ponniyin Selvan (The Son of Ponni). The source told DNA, "There will be an ensemble cast. The actors have already been asked to give bulk dates and commit a few years to this film, as it will be made in several parts. The book has five volumes, but the makers are planning to conceptualise it as three installments on screen." The source further added, "Mani Ratnam has narrated the script to Amit ji. He is taking his time to decide whether he would like to do it. A confirmation from his end is yet to come but he has liked the idea."
In 2018, Amitabh Bachchan shared a beautiful message on Twitter along with the pictures of his wife, Jaya Bachchan, daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda and granddaughters, Navya Naveli Nanda and Aaradhya Bachchan, on Women’s Day. But his fans expressed disappointment when they realised that Big B didn’t post a picture of his daughter-in-law and criticized him for discriminating between the women of the family. In a recent interview with Filmfare, Aishwarya reminisced about how sudden after Abhishek proposed her, their roka happened. Aishwarya recalled, "He proposed, which was amazing! And it happened like really suddenly. I didn't even know there's something called a 'roka' ceremony. We are South Indians, so, I don't know what a 'roka' is and suddenly there is this call from their house to ours; 'we are coming'. And we were like, okay. And I'm like, dad? He was like; it will take him one more day (to come)."
Aishwarya further stated, "Abhishek was like 'we are all coming and I can't stop dad. We are on our way. We are coming to your place'. I'm like, 'Oh my God!' So, this 'roka' is happening with a call to my father, who is out of town. Mum is here, we are here. They've all arrived home, they are emotional and all. I'm like, 'Oh my God, it's happening.' Then it's like, 'come on, let's go home'. I'm like, 'Mom, okay... is this...is this an engagement? Like, what just happened?"
Speaking about the after-party, Aishwarya concluded by saying, "And AB is like, just come home. Then we go home, and I'm sitting in Jalsa (Bachchans' residence). The whole town has arrived, visited us that night. There is this full-on party going on in Jalsa and I'm like, Okay, so now this is happening.' AB was like yeah. You have no idea what is going to hit you further. I'm like, 'Okay!' It's just like on. Yeah, so it was quite a whirlwind."
