Akshay Kumar is hailed as the most talented actor in the entertainment industry. He has carved his name in the hearts of millions, courtesy of his exceptional acting skills and warm personality. The actor has a number of blockbuster movies in his filmography like Hera Pheri, OMG - Oh My God!, Ram Setu, Laxmii, Welcome, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Rowdy Rathore, Khiladi, Baby and many more. Though Akshay is loved by millions, for many years, he has received a lot of backlash for his affinity towards Canada and possessing a Canadian passport. And now, the actor opened up about the same.
In an interview with India Today, Akshay Kumar opened up about his Canadian passport row. Talking about the same, the actor also revealed his darling wifey, Twinkle Khanna's reaction to him having Canadian citizenship. Khiladi Kumar mentioned that his better half was never bothered by the negativity surrounding the entire matter. Adding that he feels that people attacked him for effect, but they eventually got bored. Elaborating more on it, he said:
"Nothing, what is there to have a conversation about?"

In the same conversation, Akshay mentioned that his wife, Twinkle never asked him to give up his Canadian citizenship. The actor also added that despite having a Canadian passport, he was the highest taxpayer in India. Mentioning that he never understood why people were concerned about his citizenship, Akshay said:
"Even though I had a Canadian passport, I paid all of my taxes here. I was the highest-paying taxpayer. I had no idea people were so disturbed. Because of the pandemic, it took nearly a year and a half for me to apply for citizenship. Surprisingly, I received it on August 15."
For the unversed, it was on August 15, 2023, when Akshay Kumar received his Indian citizenship. Taking to his IG handle, the actor shared a picture of the documents and expressed his happiness about being granted Indian citizenship. Along with the picture, he penned a short note, which could be read as:
"Dil aur citizenship, dono Hindustani. Happy Independence Day1 Jai Hind!"

On October 9, 2023, a video of Akshay Kumar from Vimal ad went viral on the video. The video also featured Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. Soon after the video went viral on the internet, the actor received a lot of hate for endorsing the brand for the second time despite declaring his discontinuation of the endorsement. However, Akshay reacted to the rumours and mentioned that the brand could use the ad until the end of their contract. In his words:
"Returns as ambassador? here's som fact check for you Bollywood Hungama, if by chance you are interested in things other than fake news. These ads were shot on 13th October, 2021. I have not had anything to do with the brand ever since I publicly announced the discontinuation of the endorsement. They can legally run the already shot ads till the end of next month. Chill and do some real news."
