Kajol and Ajay Devgn are one of the OG couples of B-Town. While one is known for his handsome looks, the other is known for her glamorous acting andaaz and hearty laughter. The duo, who has been married for more than 24 years now, never seem enough to shower love on one another. Moreover, the duo is also proud parents to their adorable children, Nysa and Yug.
Kajol and Ajay have been known as one of Bollywood's most-loved and popular on-screen jodis. However, their love story began due to a chance, accidental meeting. The duo had met for the first time on the sets of their first film together, Hulchul, in 1995. Interestingly, the leading lady's role was not initially listed for Kajol. However, after the unfortunate passing away of Divya Bharti, who was supposed to be the lead heroine, it was Kajol who made the last-minute entry. Rest is history, as the film was a success and formed the base of Ajay Kajol’s friendship.

Later in an interview, Kajol recalled her dating period with hubby, Ajay and mentioned how his extremely shy nature made it difficult for her to bond with him. It was more so awkward because Kajol herself was an extreme extrovert. Despite such troubles, Kajol and Ajay broke the ice, and gradually their friendship blossomed into a beautiful relationship. In an interview with the Humans Of Bombay, Kajol revealed how despite dating different people at one point, both she and Ajay gradually broke up with their respective partners and became friends. In her words:
"I was going out with somebody, I think he was going out with somebody at that point of time. And we did a film together and we kind of became friends from there.”
After dating for almost four years, the couple took the nuptial plunge. However, all this while, the duo had decided to keep their relationship a secret from the world; the duo got married on February 24, 1999, in a traditional Maharashtrian wedding. They tied the knot in an intimate ceremony, which was strictly attended by selected close friends and family members of the couple. Moreover, the then-groom-to-be, Ajay, had maintained the strictness of privacy to such an extent that he did not even hire a single photographer for the event and took the job on his shoulders. After that, Ajay and Kajol left the city to enjoy a month-long honeymoon in Europe.
While the couple was too happy enjoying their marital bliss, there was a time right after their wedding when rumours were rife that all was not well between Kajol and her mother-in-law, Veena Devgn. While neither of the family members had spoken about it initially, it was Kajol who had finally come out and dismissed all such rumours. However, while these were baseless facts, they still impacted her marital relationships with her husband and in-laws. In an interview, Kajol had once recalled those testing times and mentioned:
“I don't believe in those rumours because I know the way this industry functions. You cannot continue a marriage without the basic trust. Frankly, I don't care for such talk.”

The madly-in-love couple reached the next stage of their lives, and it was in 2001 when the couple announced that they were expecting their first child. However, things turned upside down when Kajol suffered a miscarriage in the sixth month of her first pregnancy. The times were undoubtedly painful for the couple, and more so for Kajol, whose dreams seemed shattered entirely. However, such news also gave rise to gossip, suggesting that a failed pregnancy had perhaps caused trouble in Kajol and Ajay’s marital paradise. However, in an interview back then, Ajay had steered away from all such rumours and, standing strong beside his wifey, had mentioned:
“Both of us were thrilled when we learnt of the pregnancy. If not today, tomorrow we will look forward to starting a family. Kajol will be back on her feet before you know it. We're happy together and that's all that matters.”
However, a few years after this unhappy incident, the sun shined bright on the couple again as they finally welcomed their first child, their daughter, Nysa Devgn, on April 20, 2023. Finally, the family got completed with the arrival of their son, Yug, seven years later on September 13, 2010. Fast forward to today, both Nysa and Yug are the apples of the eyes of their parents, who are obsessed with and proud of them.
Nearly 24 years have passed since the couple met, fell in love, got married and started their own family. The duo has stayed beside one another through thick and thin and are perfect partners to one another. Their love story has undoubtedly proven that opposites do attract each other.
