After barely recovering from his arrest and public mental health crisis, Lil Nas X is now facing yet another personal setback with the death of his mother. He took to his social media handle to announce the heartbreaking news and shared an emotional tribute to her. Although there was a distance between Lil Nas X and his mother, Tameka Hill, for a long time, it did not deter his love for his mother.

Who was Lil Nas X's mother, Tameka Hill? 

Tameka Hill was the mother of Montero Lamar Hill, better known as Lil Nas X. She married Robert Stafford, and the couple raised their children together for some time. However, they parted ways after a few years when Lil Nas X was still young.

After their divorce, the rapper lived with his mother and grandmother in Atlanta. However, when Tameka's struggle with drug addiction became more severe, the former couple's custody arrangements were changed. It meant Lil Nas X had to move in with his father. 

Despite being the mother of a famous rapper, Tameka stayed out of the public eye. Still, she was an important part of her son's life. According to all the information shared by Lil Nas X about his mother, her drug addiction had left an impact on their relationship.

Over the years, Lil Nas X has been candid about his relationship with his mother. He shared how she used to witness his mother struggle with drug addiction and substance abuse. He also acknowledged in his interviews that her addiction had left some distance between them. It was the primary reason why the rapper was unable to develop a close bond with his mother. 

Lil Nas X added that he tried to help his mother through treatment and recovery. However, he accepted that the situation was often difficult and that his efforts did not bring about lasting change. Despite these challenges, Lil Nas X harboured no bitterness toward his mother. Instead, he often emphasised that love was the centre of their bond.

The same love and affection were reflected in the social media post shared by Lil Nas X to mourn the loss of his mother. He shared her pictures after her death, which included an image from his childhood where Tameka held him. In his caption, he described her as "the baddest ever" and shared his heartbreak over the loss.

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X's father, Robert Stafford, was a stabilising figure in his life. When the rapper was nine years old, he moved in with his father in Lithia Springs, Georgia. Although the change was difficult for him at first, he later accepted that it helped him avoid trouble. At the same time, he got a more structured environment.

Robert was a gospel singer and warehouse supervisor. So, he raised his son to have discipline and focus on hard work. Robert also defended his son when people questioned him and their family for not helping Tameka's addiction struggles. In his words:

Lil Nas X is mourning the loss of his mother, Tameka Hill 

Lil Nas X took to his Instagram handle on August 29, 2026. He shared an emotional post on the occasion to pay tribute to his mother with some of her throwback pictures. It gave fans an insight into the love which always prevailed between them. However, the rapper did not mention her age or cause of death. 

In fact, this personal setback comes for Lil Nas X, just a year after he was taken into custody for a public health crisis. While he has been focused on his recovery, losing his mother has added more to his woes.
