But recently he left fans concerned affer he revealed that he is set to undergo brain surgery in a few days. In turn, fans have been sending in their best wishes for him. Meanwhile, the internet has also become curious about the woman who was once his biggest source of strength. We are referring to his late wife, Jan Ross, who stood by him through all the challenges of life. Let's know everything about her.
Jan Grillette, later known as Jan Ross, was the wife of WWE Hall of Famer and legendary commentator Jim Foss. Initially, she began her career as a flight attendant. In fact, her friends and colleagues described her as a warm and generous person. But soon, when she met Jim, her life changed for the good.
Eventually, Jan became a popular figure in the wrestling community. She was best known for opening her home for wrestlers, managers, and other industry figures. In fact, many of them considered her a trusted friend and a welcoming presence in the challenging world of wrestling.
Gradually, she became popular as one of the wrestling world's most admired spouses. Many people praised her kindness and hospitality. At the same time, Jim used to credit Jan with helping him through some of the most difficult phases of his life. She stood by him through his career setbacks, health challenges, and intense travel schedules. Moreover, Jan was the one thing that kept him grounded.
Although WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair often jokes that he introduced Jim and Jan, the legendary commentator shares a different version of events. According to Jim, he first met Jan during a flight from West Virginia to Atlanta in 1999
At that time, Jan was working as a flight attendant. Meanwhile, Jim and Ric were seated in first class. Soon, Jim asked about a meal prepared for the passengers. In turn, Jan awkwardly admitted that she had eaten one of the meals herself because the first-class rooms were empty. So, she took it as she believed the food would go to waste.
But eventually, the awkward situation started a conversation between them. He recalled in an interview how he was immediately impressed with Jan's personality. In fact, they spent much of the flight talking with each other. Later, the connection developed into love, and they tied the knot in 1993.
When Jim joined the WWE in the early 1990s, Jan left her career as a flight attendant and shifted with him. They moved to Connecticut for the same reason. Over time, they shared a strong marriage for nearly 23 years. It enabled them to build a family and mutually they became a source of support for each other.
A tragedy struck Jan and Jim's happy life on March 23, 2017. Jan, who was 55 at that time, was involved in a devastating scooter accident in Norman, Oklahoma. She was riding her Vespa scooter to reach home from the gym when she was struck by a vehicle.
It was driven by a teenager, which left her with critical head injuries. Jan also suffered multiple skull fractures and a traumatic brain injury. Therefore, she was placed on life support. However, Jan passed away two days later. Needless to say, it was a major blow to Jim and left the wrestling world and fans in shock.
Later, Jim paid tribute to his bond with Jan in his memoirs, Slobberknocker and Under the Black Hat. He extensively wrote about Jan and the impact she had on his life and career. Now, the book stands as an honor to the woman whom he considers the greatest blessing of his life.
Things were not easy for Jim after Jan's loss. Meanwhile, after nearly 9 years, he is facing another major challenge. But this time it is related to his health. The 74-year-old broadcaster is scheduled to undergo brain surgery on August 12, 2026, in Oklahoma.
According to reports, doctors have planned to insert a shunt to drain excess fluid from his brain. It is a condition that has reportedly led to his memory issues, balance problems, and frequent falls. In fact, the procedure came after he suffered a major health issue earlier this year that led to his lengthy hospitalization.
Still, Ross has remained positive throughout. At the same time, he shared that while the surgery seems intimidating, he is eager to move ahead and focus on his recovery. The wrestling icon is also hoping to return to the desk later this month if he recovers as planned. For those unaware, he has already overcome colon cancer surgery, skin cancer, and surgeries related to his hip.
We wish a speedy recovery to Jim Ross.
