For the unversed, Claudine Longet and Andy Williams welcomed three children together during the 14 years of their marriage. The couple met in 1960 after Longet moved to Las Vegas to perform at The Tropicana Casino, according to GQ. The couple had a whirlwind romance, with the French-born actress and The Andy Williams Show host tying the knot in Los Angeles in December of that year. The couple welcomed three beautiful children, a daughter named Noelle and two sons named Christian and Bobby. So, as the world mourns her loss, let's take a look at her children.
Andy Williams and Claudine Longet tied the knot in 1961, and soon after, welcomed their three children: a daughter, Noelle and two sons, Christian and Robert (Bobby). While the couple kept the details of their birthdates private, GQ reported at the time of Spider Sabich's death that, in March 1976, Noelle, Christian, and Bobby were 12, 10, and 6 years old, respectively. In addition to her three children with Andy, Claudine was a stepmother to her second husband, Ron Austin's son.
Andy Williams and Claudine Longet named their son Robert 'Bobby' after their very close friend, Robert F. Kennedy. According to reports by The Hollywood Reporter, the couple frequently spent time with Robert and his wife, Ethel Kennedy. They were also present at the time of his assassination at the Ambassador Hotel in L.A. on June 4, 1968. Claudine and Andy were watching the speech from the senator's suite a few floors above and later rushed to the Good Samaritan Hospital to be with the Kennedy family until he was pronounced dead on June 6, 1968.
The couple even attended Robert F. Kennedy's funeral at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York on June 8, 1968, where Andy Williams performed the song, The Battle Hymn of the Republic during the service. After Robert's death, Andy was spotted for several years spending time with his late friend's widow, Ethel. During a conversation with CBS News, Andy shared:
"We chose that song because he used it on the campaign trail. He had a terrible voice, but he loved to sing that song. The only way I got through singing in church that day was by saying, 'This is my job. I can't let emotion get in the way of the song.' I really concentrated on not thinking about him."
Andy Williams and Claudine Longet's second son, Christian, died while he was living in Costa Rica on July 23, 2019, according to his obituary in the Aspen Daily News. The obituary called Christian a star athlete and student at Aspen Country Day School. They added, "He excelled at soccer and was captain of the team." Christian graduated from Stanford University and moved to Costa Rica to start a teak tree farm. While not much is known about his life, he was the father of daughters, Rachelle and Sarah.
Andy Williams and Claudine Longet didn't let the end of their marriage affect their bond and remained friends and co-parents after their divorce. The couple finalised their divorce in 1975 after separating in 1970. However, despite their separation, the two remained on good terms, co-parented their three children and supported each other in public. Their son, Bobby, spoke with GQ and recalled how, "They had a great relationship. [As a child in Aspen] I said, 'Boy, I'm glad my parents aren't divorced.' And they were." They remained each other's biggest supporter with Claudine frequently making appearances on The Andy Williams Christmas Show in the 1970s and Andy flying to Aspen to support his ex-wife during her highly publicised trial in connection with the death of Sabich.
After parting ways with Andy Williams, Claudine Longet started seeing Olympian skier, Spider Sabich. The two quickly developed a close bond, and Longet even moved to Aspen with her three kids in the 1970s to be closer to Spider, according to the Aspen Times. However, in 1976, reports left everyone shocked when Claudine shot Spider in the stomach, leading to his death. Throughout her trial in connection with his death, Andy supported her in court as they remained friends, while she claimed the shooting was an accident. She was sentenced to 30 days in prison for misdemeanour negligent homicide.
